The best pub in Sandridge for quality food. Nice ambience and friendly service too. Lovely old building. The menu changes, offering seasonal dishes as well as some classics. View all feedback.
What Maria Hunter doesn't like about The Rose and Crown Sandridge:
the rose and crown accepted our reservation, but when we arrived, they told us that the restaurant was not served this evening because of the banal holiday this day and we were sent away. they recognized their mistake, but obviously a very disappointing and frustrating experience. We’ve been to the Rose and Crown a few years ago and it was a very warm inviting pub with great food, good service and always very busy. We visited today and the experience was completely different. The pub was empty for a Saturday afternoon, we ordered 2 drinks and a Camembert plater £14). The plater on initial expectation looked good but the bread was way to burnt for us to enjoy. We asked for a new batch of bread. Next we overheard shouting from the kitchen with the chef saying ”bread is just burnt toast” in a very aggressive way clearly damming us for asking for something less toasted burnt). We were pretty shocked. I’ve never experienced such awful behavior from a chef. We let the waitering staff know what we overheard and how disappointed we were and how uncomfortable we felt; they very professional and extremely apologetic but we will not be returning back to this establishment.
We have just had a fabulous Sunday Roast here, after a dog walk around the nearby woods....what a gem...never tried before and actually the third pub I'd tried to book...dog friendly...and a lovely cosy atmosphere with open fire. And the roast was faultless, we had the lamb..found just enough room for pud sticky toffee and brownie...very yummy ...all in all a lovely afternoon would highly recommend and the lady that served us with the glasses was just lovely. Nothing was too much trouble...slot of pubs could learn a lot from this friendly local..thsnkyou
We treated ourselves to a rare meal out to celebrate our wedding anniversary; Jamie gave us the warmest of welcomes, and couldn't have been more attentive, making sure we knew about the off menu specials he had on that night. I never normally go for 3 courses, but didn't regret it; our starters, mains and deserts were delicious, and the beetroot salad my wife chose looked great nice to see healthy options on a pub menu (although the sticky toffee pudding cancelled that out!
We had a party of 6 and the restaurant did an excellent job accommodating 2 guests who needed gluten-free options for Sunday lunch. The food and experience were fantastic, and we highly recommend this place.
The roast beef dinner was severely undercooked, with pink, stringy beef and vegetables that seemed to have just been quickly soaked in boiling water.
