For a hospital cafe/cafeteria Alf’s rates highly. There is a large amount of choice salads/sandwiches, hot food (both meals and snacks), coffee and cakes, as well as a wonderful juice and smoothie bar. The coffee can be hit and miss, it really does depend...on who makes your coffee. The juice bar is great, with the option to make your own combination juice. Prices are a little expensive, however, again for a hospital... View all feedback.
What Kevin Schuler doesn't like about Alf's Cafe:
The food at this restaurant is inexpensive and always delicious. The staff are friendly and accommodating, despite the busy atmosphere. However, I was disappointed this time when my meal was served in a plastic dish. It felt childish and the food spilled over the edges. I would prefer they bring back the ceramic plates. Additionally, I would like to see non-plastic options for knives and forks. View all feedback.
Again visiting the Alfred Hospital, visited Alfs Cafe , knowing that I could brunch on healthy food
I often visit this hospital and always make straight for Alf's Cafe which is located on the ground floor main building , the coffee is simply surpurb! Meals /sandwiches/ salads are all available prices are extremely reasonable , many of the hospital staff eat here which indicates its popularity, cleanliness at all times , extremely friendly staff eat in / or garden courtyard , give it a go you will be pleasantly surprised !Cheers peter
Good sandwiches and not bad coffee either. Was pleasantly surprised and we were assured by patients that the visitors were treated to a better selection than they were upstairs! Was also impressed with the variety. As an attachment to the Alfred, they're doing a great job.
I am a regular patron at Alfs Cafe, working nearby. On a nice day I eat in the outdoor dining area where there is shade if needed. The food is generally very good but I would not recommend hot wraps as I have found that the fillings do not seem freshly made. The sandwiches and rolls are really good ,especially if made while you wait. The salads too are varied and really tasty. the hot main meals are really good value for money.
Nice selection of quick, easy hot and cold food. Cafeteria style, great for family breakfasts and lunches while visiting a loved one at the hospital. Decor is typical hospital, so no need to comment on that. Their pre-made sandwiches are never what I want for some reason. Usually I feel like rye bread in pre-made sandwiches and they mostly have white/wholegrain so that might add an extra star for me if they got rye bread in the pre-made section. I could get a custom sandwich made though, but I never have time, and that's on me, so maybe I won't deduct that star after all.Selection of salads always impresses. I enjoy every single one of their salads. They're fresh, generous and delicious. Their sushi is fine. There's a better sushi place down the street, but if you can't be bothered then the sushi here is completely fine. The Coffee side is usually full of nice people working very hard to make excellent coffee/tea/lots of drinks. However their customer service in the mornings, and sometimes in the day is a bit lacking on the registers. I know it's hard to work retail, hospitality, and especially a coffee register, but this is a hospital and we've come here for a bit of warming comfort, not to be barked at and/or rushed. Would get four stars if they smiled more. Other than that, they all seem to do their job well.Lost the other star because they close too early. Major inconvenience when I'm staying late to visit loved ones.
