Wonderful salads, soups and sandwiches served at lunch time only. Unusual menu catering to all kinds of eaters. Get there before 12 because it’s s very popular lunch spot. View all feedback.
What Donna Redmon doesn't like about Sweet Basil:
The restaurant has undergone some changes, but unfortunately not for the better. There is no table service - patrons must grab a menu upon entering, seat themselves, and then go to the register to place their order. After a 45-minute wait, the food arrived in disposable containers with plastic utensils. The tuna pasta salad was disappointing, lacking tuna but drowning in mayonnaise. Classic. My friends and I always eat here for lunch while shopping in downtown. My grandmothers too. The vegetarian sandwich is fantastic!
I have never had a soup there that wasn't good! Made fresh everyday! Chicken Napa sandwich is oh so good! Every dish is!!!!
My wife and I sat outside in the cozy courtyard watching folks go by on the street. The Turkey Ruben sandwich was served quite hot with melted cheese on perfectly toasted rustic rye bread. One of the best Rubens I've had. Special soup of the day was creamy spinach. It was very fresh and flavorful, with a small assortment of excellent bread to go with it. I hope to return on our next trip through Southern Pines. The only downside was that everything was served in to-go containers, but I understand why they would choose to do that.
At the time of my visit they were short staffed so food was all served to go even when dining in. Had their soup of the day which did not disappoint, and their cold roast beef with horseradish sauce.
Sweet Basil was very good. Great, friendly service and delicious food. The house made Vinaiigrette was one of the best I had. I tried the Hot Vegetarian sandwich: avocado, tomatoes and cheese with pesto. It was very good, and also a good size. Worth the money.
