Was looking for Asian dish first night in St. John's, NL. Came across this restaurant thought to give it a try. It turns one to be one of the best Korean food we have tried in years (we came from Toronto with huge Korean population and a Korean town). Definitely will return if we visit the town again. What User doesn't like about J Korean Restaurant:
We ordered beef bulgogi, and several other dishes. I ordered a pork belly soup but when I got my soup there was hardly any pork in it only mostly vegetables. My son liked what he ordered but 3 of us (my husband ,me and another son), were not so satisfied with what we got. The place looks dim and when you enter the place it looks a bit unkempt. Orders however were served promptly. View all feedback.
The staff and owners at this restaurant are very friendly and kind. I just wish they offered a larger selection of sushi that was more affordable. Perhaps they could consider offering half-priced sushi rolls to attract more customers.
The food was delicious, especially the kimchi. The service was excellent. I definitely plan on returning.
Really unbelievably amazing food! I 'd call it moderate-to-expensive, but it can be moderate if you 're not a glutton... My parent Paul lives a few blocks away in St. John 's, and I am from Toronto and my husband from Southern California, and on our last night of our recent visit in St. John 's, we went out for a casual dinner. BOY were we thrilled with the fantastic food and service. The restaurant has a web site but it is not currently loading here in Florida... so I cannot give you the names of the dishes. I can tell you that the young waitress who initially served us correctly surmised Paul was ordering the 'wrong ' dish (though I now suspect it, also, would have been lovely) and suggested another... and that was the STAR of the dinner, in my opinion. Everything cooked beautifully, plenty of spice where we wanted it, but never at the expense of flavor. NOT a cheap night out in St. John 's terms, but not insane either (if you were a repeat customer you 'd know what to order and could get fewer dishes with just as much satisfaction). I loved the eclectic decor and style of dishes and so forth. The place is perfect for dates and intimate groups. If your table is not very into hot spices, just be sure to say so and let the staff help you order accordingly. I loved it and plan to return! If I can get their web site to load and get their email, I may post again with the specific dishes we ordered.
The restaurant is a blend of modern and traditional Victorian styles, housed in an old Duckworth Street home with a laid-back atmosphere. Our server helped us choose some delicious dishes, including the hot bulgogi and calamari appetizer. While I can't speak to its authenticity as Korean cuisine, it remains one of my top restaurants in town.
The cook is a nice lady and very accommodating to requests. Service was fantastic and professional. Food was top quality. Will be visiting many times in the future
