we had recently dinner in restaurant rust en vrede estate with wine pairing, which was very disappointing. although the service was amazing and much attention to the nutritional requirements of allergies on sunflower oil, we were really disappointed about eating and above all the wine pairing. I expected to weep with the pairing of foods frustration and vrede weine, but received inferior different weeps from everywhe... View all feedback.
The estate is quite beautiful but the wine tasting seems to be a bit disappointing. They offer lunch menu and wine tastings. Food was delicious so I would definitely recommend taking their salmon or steak. As for the wine tasting given the price point it fails to deliver, unfortunately: the choice of wines is very limited, their wines are not bad but they only give you to try young wines which clearly need time to mature to open up the flavours, but most importantly, the wines tasting is done in the same glass which is awkward and seems very cheap compared to other wineries we’ve been to. Instead of boasting about serving your wines for famous people, they would be better off improving the basic wine tasting service. I’d recommend visiting this winery, but it definitely shouldn’t be your first choice.
What a wonderful evening. The food is excellent and the combination of the ingredients and tastes are the most important factor contributing to the experience. This is in contrast to many similar establishments, where side-shows distracts from the food and tastes. The staff are very professional and efficient. Well worth the price.
Classy winery with a lovely leafy courtyard patio for lunch. Service was attentive and good, food was just alright but nothing too spectacular to match the upper heel surroundings. Beef medallion was somewhat brittle and sinewy. The grilled Salmon was just as it is anywhere else that offered one. Wines seemed to be on the steep side.
We came for the winemakers lunch , on a Monday in mid December. No booking but I would recommend you book as it was very busy for a Monday. Limited menu. Either Norwegian Salmon. Peppered Fillet or Sirloin. Price includes a glass of wine. I think all 3 were priced around R380. Chenin to accompany the salmon. Shiraz to accompany the Fillet. Red blend to accompany the Sirloin. We were both very happy with the quality of our meals. It was clear that lots of the clientele were doing tastings. It was possible to order the wine by the glass or the bottle. There was a relaxed atmosphere. No one in a hurry to leave. Lovely views. Possible to eat indoors outdoors. Excellent service from well attired staff. We would return in a heartbeat.
Incredible meal on Sunday. Sirloin was outstanding the only thing better was the service. Caitlin was exceptional and a big thank you.
