I have lived in peru for years and have heard endlessly from the wonderful black oysters. every time someone encourages me to try them, they are outside the season. yesterday I heard about this place in surquillo near my office called "black oyster, las conchas negras". I had lunch today, so we decided to try it. it is located in a terrible location, like my office, in surquillo, a city part that is not known to eat and not convenient for parking. I would not go there to impress a date or a customer. at least, once in the order was pleasant and typical Peruvian seafood restaurant. the kitchen was open to the seating area was impeccably clean and organized. they had a full staff of waiters and chefs, so the attention was immediately and polite. Of course, I ordered the signature mixed Ceviche plate that contains the black oysters, shellfish, white fish, otopus and soul. it was also my first taste of rohem seeigel. it all played very well together. the soul was served separately due to its strong taste. while it was as strong as its legendary, I enjoyed it a lot with a bit of soil rocoto. Maybe because of the strong taste I was underwhelmed with the black oysters. does not know whether they are famous for their taste or because of their rareness. While they are in season, I will try other preparations and enjoy them solo without mixing the other tastes. all in all this is a great little restaurant that I would recommend despite its local feeling without hesitation.
Great restaurant with large selection of seafood dishes, from seafood fritters (chicharron de mariscos) to shrimp chupe (chupe de camarones, great taste at a good price. Desserts another plus, delicious and large variety -try the burned milk (leche quemada) Customer service a little slow but OK, we are looking forward to our next visit.
I have lived in Peru for 5 years and have heard endlessly about the wonderful black oysters. Seems every time someone encourages me to try them they are out of season. Yesterday I heard about this place in Surquillo close to my office named the Black Oyster, Las Conchas Negras. I had had a business lunch today so we decided to try it out. It is in a terrible location, as is my office, in Surquillo, a district not known for dining and not convenient for parking. I wouldn´t go there to impress a date or a client. Anyway, once inside the arrangement was pleasing and typical Peruvian seafood restaurant. The kitchen was open to the seating area was impeccably clean and organized. They had a full staff of waiters and cooks so the attention was immediate and courteous. Of course I ordered the signature mixed ceviche plate that included the black oysters, shell fish, white fish, octopus and sea urchins. It was my first taste of raw sea urchin as well. It all played together very well. The sea urchin was served separate because of its strong flavor. While it was as strong as its legend, I enjoyed it a lot with a bit of ground rocoto. Maybe because of the strong flavor I was left underwhelmed with the black oysters. Don’t know if they are famous because of their flavor or because of their rarity. While they are in season I will have to try other preparations and enjoy them solo without mixing the other tastes. All in all, this is great little restaurant that I would recommend without hesitation in spite of its local.
