A short journey into Currumbin Valley brings you to a left turn onto Tomewin Mountain Road. The ascent onto the scenic Mount Tomewin presents a rainbow of rolling agricultural land and sheer valley vistas. As you take in the gradual climb you discover a hidden gem of the Gold Coast, café ieightcake. While it’s hard to know where to start, the dramatic view directly down the Valley or the established Freeman’s Organic Farmhouse Stand the aroma of organically grown fresh brew will entice you to this gorgeous café owned by the very talented Dani Riley, mother of five and proprietor of what just might be the best little café on the coast. Why ieightcake is loved by locals Dani is a coffee lover, old school baker and Gold Coast local. Immediately I feel like we’ve know each other for the longest time as she busily looks up over the coffee machine and takes the time to welcome not just me, but every visitor, as if we were old acquaintances. It’s 9:00am and the place is humming, local people getting stuck into locally grown organic fare. If you follow ieightcake on Instagram you will be familiar with the amazing cook that Dani is. Her posts of fresh breakfasts, melting moments, sourdough, and chocolate cake are so delectable you’ll be forgiven for trying to bite your phone. Whilst looking across an array of freshly baked muffins, cakes, pies and biscuits I glimpse a balance between organic, vegan, gluten free options and delight in a mix of clean, simple flavours married with the bad stuff we all love. The difficult choice...what to eat today? From the well appointed menu I settle on the potato rosti with avocado and hummus. Delightfully presented and generous in portion size, the rosti is fresh, textured, full of flavour and accompanied by half an avocado that was grown and picked literally thirty metres away. My husband enjoyed a delicious bacon and egg burger on an Elvis roll while Jethro and Arlo deconstructed a homemade blue berry muffin. Did I mention the coffee? Hot, strong and served with a smile, this isn’t one of those coffees’s that you’re supposed to feel privileged to drink; it’s just good old down to earth country generosity. While we sit beyond the ‘Secret Door’ in a garden equipped for children, it’s hard not to note that the food we’re eating is growing all around us. This notion is confirmed as a member of Dani's team comes out from behind the counter to cut some fresh lettuce leaves straight from the garden; it really doesn’t get any better than this. Stay as long as you like ieightcake is one of those homes away from home where you can sit and take in the serenity, chat with the locals or simply read the paper. Time kind of stood still for a moment, which, if you have adventurous young-ens, is a rarity. The secret to finding amazing spots is to follow the locals. They always know. And ieightcake is full of local people. What will you find at ieightcake? # Food Available# Coffee Available# Bins Provided# Pram/stroller Access# Beach Cart Friendly (as seen in photos from Seed
