Hidden treasure! Highly recommend eating at Felons, which is the restaurant converted from the cafe in the reception of the historic site. If in Port Arthur, don't waste your time with anywhere else! View all feedback.
What Brennon Schulist doesn't like about Felons Bistro:
Respect the produce. Went on a ghost tour and decided to eat at Felons. Entreeof kilpatrick oysters were nice. The oysters with line, ginger, chilli etc were over powered by lime juice. Ordered venison and salmon for main. Both were over cooked but edible. With such amazing produce in Tasmania it's important for the chef to respect it enough to do it justice and cook it properly. Staff were a little clumsy and awkwar... View all feedback.

Just what pub food should be, I had a delicious parma. a good choice of alcohol, including a Tassie Cidder I enjoyed very much. the prices were also very reasonable in view of the tourist situation. I would not recommend this place after a day of remembrance of the historical site and/or before the ghost tour.
During our stay in port arthur we sang on the same day at felons bistro that we visited a penitenziary. we did not know what to expect, because the place is like the museumcaféteria days, but is more like a restaurant in the night. and we were quite surprised: oysters were simply great and refined, mostly well cooked (pastas even better than some Italian restaurants,) good selection of tasmanic cheese, and an interesting wine list. nice service. great experience and definitiw a place to recommand as there are not so many in the environment
If you can find another restaurant in the area, go there. Waited an hour and a half for our mains for no apparent reason. 3 of us ordered steak medium rare and it they came out well done, one to the point it was inedible. Service unremarkable. On the upside, the oysters both fresh and kilpatrick were very good. Two bottles of the Bream Creek Reisling 2015 helped us through.
Cafe by day, restaurant quality by night. We had a two course dinner as part of the after dark pass. We shared the oyster kilpatrick. It's cooked just right. We ordered the nori crusted salmon with soba and venison as our mains. The salmon was cooked so perfectly that I have never had it better anywhere else. But the soba noodles lacked acid. A lime/lemon wedge would have been good. I may be so wrong but I think it's been dressed with olive oil and it just doesn't go together.maybe a ponzu based dressing would have tasted better. The venison main was raved about by my partner. We shared the creme brule with raspberry sorbet for dessert. Excellent sorbet, slightly thicker than expected top, but not complaining. The cafe makes one of the yummiest hummingbird cakes! And th chicken and cheese toasted sandwich........something that u might have to fight over if eating with someone else
