another fine dinner in the enoteca. they enjoy the masseria setteporter mascalese, which fits well with our salty and hearty appetits. enjoy the spaghetti carbonara (again). my dinner partner agreed to the agnolotti. we're coming back. View all feedback.
What Russ Miller doesn't like about Ascari Enoteca:
Food and service were good, but Had the last rez of night at 9:30 and felt too rushed thru drinks to order food before kitchen closed. in the end it was fine, as our waiter was very nice. but we were the last to leave restaurant while the staff cleaned up. View all feedback.
There were some good things at ascari, but overall I was disappointed.Starting with the positives, the service was very responsive and almost too keen. The brocollini friti we had as an appetizer were excellent. And the restaurant overall has a good look. And it was open on Canada day.But both my wife and I were disappointed by our mains. We both had pasta. The flavours just weren't there. It tasted like something below what we could have put together by reheating pasta in a frying pan, at home. Perhaps the cook was having a bad night, or this just isn't our style of pasta. Others have evidently had better experiences here. But my impression was that this restaurant either needs to increase the overall quality of its food or decrease its prices, because at the moment the two do not match up. Until then, I can't recommend this place.I may try dinner here again in a while, and I hope to update with a better review then!
The flavors were amazing, the service fantastic, and ambiance welcoming. The burrata was the best I have ever had, and the rabbit ragout was sublime.
Another Monday a Ascari....with all bottles of wine half price :) SUCH great authentic Italian food. Prepared to perfection. GREAT cocktails and beers, and you can buy beers for the chefs. Wonderful food all around. The service is great...fun and informal...not stuffy.....this is 100% not a question the best authentic Italian eatery in the east end. Thanks, Drew, for a fun night!
On a friend's recommendation, last night we had dinner at Ascari. We had some appetizers; warm low grade olives (which equated to almost 1 dollar an olive,) a few thin slices of salami and 2 other meats, these appetizers were very small portions and seemed disjointed as there was not any bread to go with them, if you want bread you would have to pay for it and would be considered another appetizer. We each had a different salad, very disappointing with wilted lettuce. Dinner was pasta: I had the tomato basil which was flavourless, looked like ground meat and was over cooked. One of my friends had the mushroom pasta special, she took a few bites and left it to take home to not upset the friend that recommended this restaurant ... She promptly threw it out when she got home. We tried to share a piece of chocolate cake, although good in taste, was so small it wouldn't satisfy a child. The service was the better part of the evening, however, since there are 6 and 8 o'clock sittings, we were asked to leave to accommodate for the 8 o'clock sitting. We went home and had to have something to eat after this dinner. I have been to all levels of dining and expected a tasty pasta dish given the reviews, primarily pasta menu and price point, this restaurant in no way came close to these expectations. I see that many people commend this restaurant, I do not know why, I would never go there again nor recommend it to anyone.
We had the most beautiful experience at this lovely restaurant. Our waiter Ryan was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented. The stand out items for me were the burrata, the arancini balls and of course the carbonara. The carbonara was one of the tastiest meals I have ever had. The house made noodles were perfectly cooked and the combination of ingredients was to die for.
