What User doesn't like about Tavern On The Square:
Giving this place an extra star for ambiance. Place wasn't that busy outside, hostess gave us menus and we grabbed a seat by the fire, and then proceeded to wait 40 minutes for a lemonade and a sangria. 2 drinks, 40 minutes. The best was a lady sat down next to us and asked about getting a beer while she was waiting for a friend and the waiter was like, I'm kinda busy, best order once you and your friend get a table... We came to think that we would order the vegan menu. unfortunately, because it is outside the season (mid october) they do not have the vegan menu. about the only thing that was available was the vegan burger who was in order.
There is an impossible burger on the menu that is delicious. also has vegan apps, and some Asian style lures that can be made with tofu. vegan chocolate mousse was also great.
Came once last year to dinner and once this year on annual ski tour. the menu vegan must be requested separately. there are several options. tonight I had the island rice dish that was great and dessert a phenomenal chocolate mousse that had a dark chocolate mousse made of avocados and pistachios cookies, plus on the side of the celestial, pistachios and a coconut buffet. last year I had the mezze appetizer, the an avocado and drilling hummus, oliven, with big dive cracker (although not enough cracker for the amount of hummus). service was both very attentive and in-line with fine food. also during the apres ski lessons live music. it was expensive, but it's vail.
Ask for the vegan menu. this is not a bad option if you consider how remote and expensive this place is. eating was quite decent. we have a Japanese rice dish, an Arugula salad and a handcrafted brot with olive oil and vinegar. They were all quite good, but all that came over $50, which seems a little steep in view of the ingredients and complexity of the dishes. our waiter was very inconspicuous and it was impossible to get his attention. the rest of the staff was quietly good.
Food service was great! On our last day, they added Ei Benedict to the breakfast menu. That was my favorite. Natalie was the best. She made our trip unforgettable. I hope to be back soon.
