A fantastic authentic El Salvadoran/Mexican restaurant and grocery store. It's small and not fancy but the food and service are up there. We had the tortilla soup with hot tomato sauce and it was homemade with bits of cheese and avocado and just the right amount of chips. I had the beef burrito which was about 8 to 9 inches long and came with a nice spicy sauce and chopped lettuce on the side. The beef was delicious... View all feedback.
I watched a video review on YouTube by Vancity Food Crew about El Pulgarcito. This restaurant is a hidden gem located on Hastings Street. They offer affordable and delicious food. I ordered a regular sized chicken burrito and it was huge. The chips starter is great for sharing, and I highly recommend trying the Salvadoran horchata. They have a variety of food options to choose from, making it a great spot for tasty Mexican cuisine.
Family owned and it shows. In a good way! The food is simple but very tasty. Nothing is done with excessive oil or salt so I always feel good after eating here. I don’t eat meat and I have two friends who can’t eat gluten. We all have an easy time ordering here... even the Chili Relleno was gluten free last we asked. This is my most visited restaurant 10 years running. To be fair I do live close by.
My partner is always on the search for new small, family run Mexican places for us to try. First he loves Mexican food, and second he finds these the most authentic and worthy of his money and support. We drove past this one in the morning and kept our word to come back at night. A smaller restaurant themed in yellow and blue: yellow walls, blue columns and blue counters. Hanging on these walls were paintings of birds on canvas, 3D sculptured front of homes, and a gilded piece depicting a court yard in Chrome.
I haven't been here in a while and I am going to have to change that my next trip to the Mainland. I used to head here regularly when I lived in East Van. Often I was the only customer in the place, so I am glad to see it is still operating and people have caught on. <br/ <br/ El Pulgarcito, like a lot of good Central American places I have been to, is no frills dining. It is clean, spartan and low key. The whole menu is worth trying, but I encourage you to try the sopa de pata menudo. We really need a place like this in Victoria.
I really enjoy this restaurant. The burritos are fantastic, unlike the fast tex-mex joints that seem to be everywhere. The enchiladas were also delicious. The tacos were tasty too. I haven't tried everything on the menu yet, but I keep coming back for the burritos because they always hit the spot after a long day. I have never been disappointed.
