Whilst we were staying in the Commercial Drive area of Vancouver, we decided to eat at Saloniki Taverna one evening for dinner. We had two waitresses who were attending our table, and both were welcoming and friendly. The food was well presented and tasty. If you are in the mood for some Greek food I would definitely recommend Saloniki Taverna. To get an idea of price 4 main dishes, no drinks other than water, and be... View all feedback.
What Lynn M doesn't like about Saloniki Taverna:
Not sure where the negative reviews come from as we had a fantastic dinner. The server was very friendly and didn't mind that we weren't in a rush (girl catch up). The grilled calamari was fantastic. I would go back just for that. The souvlaki was fine tasted like souvlaki everywhere. I had the halibut souvlaki which was a nice option. The portions probably aren't as big as soe Greek restaurants but that is a good th... View all feedback.
Saloniki offers your typical Greek fare in Commercial Drive. Not too bad on your pocket, it is easy to get lost in the patio for a couple of hours during summer. The service lacks a little, but the food has a couple of interesting options: lamb shank, which is super cheap during the lunch special, and the grilled lamb is delicious.
Surprised to see mediocre reviews. They have a really great meat, fish, and veggie selection. The prices are comparable to most Greek restaurants. Most importantly the food is genuinely good quality and presented very beautifully. I've had the Salmon Souvlaki previously and this time I had the veggie pasta dish. Very impressed both times I went. I've been to 6 or 7 other Greek places in Vancouver and only one even compared in terms of food quality.
Last year I dined at Saloniki and found it average quality Greek food. But the meal I had last night was excellent. The grilled calamari and tzadziki sauce was delicious. All the vegetables were fresh and flavorful. The outdoor patio is a great place for visiting and people-watching. The service was fast and friendly. And they have live music.<br/ <br/ All-in-all, a great dining experience!
3 course dinner special: Kalamari, roast lamb and ek Mek for dessert. All for $17.99. Plus 2.99 beer specials and 4.99 martini specials. Saturday night. Food was really solid. Large portions. Decent prices. Shall return!
Good Meat. Roast lamb was pretty good, spanakopita was superb, and the rest of our orders tsaziki, hommus, dolmades, etc are also quite decent. I see the guys beside us having this iron plate where the server would light it up on fire in front of your eyes, which is pretty cool. Also the servers are quite friendly. I would come back just to try out that iron plate.
