Contribute FeedbackUmeda is a Vancouver gem offering great value and solid Japanese food. While the ambiance may lack, the owners and staff are welcoming and the menu features classic dishes like gyozas and tempura. The sushi is fresh and the takeout specials are a steal. The restaurant may have some minor concerns like payment options and maintenance issues, but the food quality and service make up for it. Locals frequent this spot for quick, affordable, and tasty Japanese cuisine. Overall, Umeda is a reliable choice for a satisfying meal in Vancouver.
Have ordered from them on several occasions from Skip The Dishes.and everything I'm deleted by how tasty and fresh the rolls are.
This is one of those cheap sushi places where you come for quantity over quality.
Mango Avacado roll was tasty..Good combination of 2 favorite this.__Tofu roll was decent to eat._ 8 pieces each so was filling.
I wanted a quick cheaper meal and passed by this restaurant. I have been here before a while ago. I remember getting their udon noodle box combo before and not liking the broth, as it was too plain. I wanted to try their bento boxes as they start at $8.95. They have a number of different combinations that were very competitive in pricing, many under $10.The restaurant was quite empty and looked neat with nice table seatings and booths. The booths are quite spacious, but the covering is quite torn and overused. They could use replacement. The menu is extensive. I decided on Bento Box A with beef teriyaki for $8.95. The service is reasonable. There is only one waitress and she got the job done, friendly, prompt, and efficient. The customers were mainly left on their own as she is also responsible for helping the cook. But, she is readily available once you call her.My Bento Box came with with miso soup, 2 prawn and 3 vegetable tempura and dip, teriyaki beef and rice, salad, a generous piece of cantaloupe, and 8 pieces of California roll with ginger and wasabi. The portion was quite generous, enough for 2 meals! The food came quite fast. The miso soup was really delicious and the seaweed was a bit chewy and undercooked. It may be a bit salty for some, but I found it to be one of the best miso soups I have had, compared to the watery or bland versions. The salad wasn't great for me. The dressing was quite vinegary and mildly sweet. The tempura was very fresh, with a thin dense batter. It would have been better with a lighter batter, but still really good. The dip was really tasty too, with lots of flavour, mildly sweet and savoury. The California roll was well done with all the expected ingredients: imitation crab meat, avocado, and cucumber inside the rice roll, topped with sesame seeds. Most cheaper places leave out the cucumber, but I like it in for the extra crunch. The beef teriyaki with rice was quite good too. There was a generous potion of beef and the sauce was really tasty, striking a great balance between thick and thin. There was so much food, plenty to get full and for a next meal. This is a great place for really good food at great prices! I recommend this place for a quick large meal, but don't recommend their udon soup, as mentioned before, the broth is quite bland, unless you prefer it that way. I would come back here as it is another great Japanese restaurant in Vancouver downtown.
Great place while raining and windy and cold outside! .Waitress should not bring her child with her! it's annoying to listen to child scream while you eat lunch that you pay for! It's not like its free.
