Contribute FeedbackOcean Garden, located in a prime spot in Chinatown, serves average Cantonese food with subpar service. Diners complained of slow service, poorly prepared dishes, and lackluster flavors. However, some customers found the food delicious, the service friendly, and prices reasonable. Despite some mixed reviews, Ocean Garden remains a popular choice for North American Chinese cuisine, offering classics like Breaded Almond Chicken and Wor Wonton Soup. While not the best, the consistent quality and nostalgic dishes keep customers coming back for more. Overall, Ocean Garden earns a solid 4-star rating for its comfort food and efficient service.
We arrived to a very empty restaurant. The waiter who was behind the front counter just pointed to the table across the room and we assumed we got the right one and sat down. It took another 10 minutes to have a menu placed in front of us, to which we waited another 15 minutes before walking out un-noticed. There were three serving staff moving about the room all ignorant to the fact we had not been served or even brought tea. They simply couldn't be bothered. Therefore we went somewhere else where they appreciated our patronage and we felt good about spending our money.
Typical chinese foods but with big servings good for 2-3 persons. Mostly take home of leftovers are expected. Lots of vegetables and generous meat served with free tea. Though it took us more than half hour to wait but the foodswere delicious. The washroom though bit old but enough toilet supplies considered acceptable.
Local bem ubicado, no Chinatown de Victoria, comida boa, sem ser especial, pratos fartos, embora poucos atendentes eles são atenciosos.
Visited this restaurant Saturday July 22. Not a very inviting place. The woman at the front desk wasn't welcoming so we decided to do the take away option. We ordered one chicken fried rice and one BBQ pork chow menu. The take out is a joke and don't bother asking why it taking so long. No one cares horrible customer service. Finally after waiting forever we got our meal and left. The chicken fried rice was void of seasoning and tasted bland and looked unappetizing. The BBQ pork chow mien was salty and over cooked. The noodles were soggy and came out of the food box in big lumps. You needed binoculars to see the pork pieces as small as tiny slivers of a lettuce leaf. Most of the food was thrown out. I do not recommend wasting your money here.
This restaurant is in a prime location and, no doubt, trades on this. But, the food was very average and not up to the standard of many Cantonese restaurants around the world. Particularly so for the Chop Suey. The steamed rice, the simplest thing, was very poorly prepared. Also, notably the Soy Sauce was weak and almost tasteless - how so? It didn't add any taste to the Chop Suey. Worse, the service was extremely slow - even bringing the check. We nearly finished one main before the second arrived. We would not return.
