Always something…. But it is what it is. Last time service was not the greatest. This time we had a rookie server. Didn’t know his beers where they were from. Called him out on the Granville island raspberry beer… kept saying it was red arrow when it wasn’t. We checked with manager to confirm raspberry beer was from Granville island it was. Was very nervous at times. Food was really good as per usual. View all feedback.
What Ashley doesn't like about The Keg Steakhouse & Bar:
We came for our anniversary and requested a booth to which they did not provide. Our server was changed after we had ordered drinks causing some confusion. We weren't offered bread before or after receiving drinks, after we received our appy we requested it. Our waiter was gone for 25 minutes at a time and left us feeling abandoned and like we were burdens or unwelcome. Despite ordering $300 in drinks and food we fel... View all feedback.
We stayed for a day in victoria and came through the keg steak restaurant and thought that looks like a good place to dinner. on our first impression the menu seemed very good. we started with something weeping and I can say the weeping, we ordered where impeccable. Unfortunately, we couldn't say the same thing about eating. the waitress asked if we wanted to start with something broth and butter what we liked, but then she never brought that broth. While I can vouch for the steak I ordered, almost all the complementary objects were incurable. the seasonal vegetables were boiled and still quite hard, the pommes were only slightly warm (and naturally cold when you had a few frying) and also undercooked. that was a shame as we liked the steak. the desert was also good, nothing to blame. only while we still eat our desert, the waitress suddenly brings a folded paper with the bill and brushes it with “if you’re ready”. we weren't even ready with gloomy and tbh, we wanted to order something else. a few moments later, while we are still at the end, it stands with the payment register at our table. and a moment later, while I go into the washroom (my friend still at the table), she collects our glasses while we still have to finish them. in all honesty I never felt so involuntary in a restaurant. that is perhaps not an average experience you have in this restaurant, at least I hope not, but for us that was really a bad experience. as she has collected everything at the end, I regret a tip. I hope that was a unique experience.
We were so happy to discover the keg steakhouse, the steaks were prepared exactly as we asked, my wife is from kansas and grew up on eating superb steaks and explained that her steak was the same of the best in the...best kansas steakhouses was
This Keg seems to be a hit-or-miss proposition. On some occasions, things can go so well. Then again, the next visit could be a miss. In May, my wife and I enjoyed an excellent view of the Victoria harbour with the sun glistening on the...water. She ordered the filet and I had a classic combo. I usually prefer the twice baked potato, but I thought I’d try the Keg fries. Big mistake. I thought what I would get are nicer thin, crisp and flavourful french fries. But I got none of the above. Instead, they tasted like they just came out of the McCain’s freezer bag. The meat was requested to be medium but even the serrated steak knife had a challenge cutting through it. I was pleased with the vegetables…plentiful and cooked properly. The bottle of red wine, one of the very few in the good value category, went well with our food choices. We thought we’d cap things off with a couple decaf cappuccinos, but there were no beans in site. For goodness sake, what a let down after an expensive meal. Walk 50 yards to any other restaurant nearby and it’s something that’s always available. C’mon Keg. After 50 years, you need to get the basics right. You still have a lot of work to do. Until then, there are many better options in downtown Victoria.
We had a great steak and lobster tail dinner. Friendly service from Nora. Free dessert because it was my birthday
This Keg location has the benefit of being located right across the street of the harbour front in downtown Victoria. The building is older and not all seats have a view of the waterfront. The views are limited to just the tables in front of...the window. I ordered an item off The Keg’s 50th anniversary menu, where they feature some appetizers, entree’s and desserts that were at some point Keg favourites over the last 50 years. I ordered the the French Onion Ribeye. It is a 14oz Ribeye, with caramelized Onions, Sherry, Beef Broth, Butter and Parmesan. It is accompanied with seasonal Vegetables and a side. I chose the Twice Baked Potato as my side. The Steak came cooked as ordered. The meat itself was up to the usual Keg standards. It was succulent and tender. I was surprised that the Steak was fairly bland in flavour. I didn’t really see or taste any Sherry, Beef Broth or Butter on the Steak. It did have the Caramelized Onions and the Parmesan. It also lacked the usual Steak Spice that The Keg uses on their Steaks. I find it very hard to believe that this feature Steak was so popular over the last 50 years at the Keg, because it was very bland and boring in flavour. I would probably not order this menu item again. The Twice Baked Potato was fresh and tasty. The seasonal Vegetables were ok. For dessert, I tried the Mile High Chocolate Cake. The Cake was rich in flavour, but somewhat hard. It didn’t seem to be fully thawed out from it’s refrigerated state. Overall, the quality of the Steak was up to Keg standards, but I left wishing I would have made a different choice in my Steak entree selection. Service was very good and prices were average.
