The Fat Angel - Waterford

Visited here on 22nd September 2023, culture day in Waterford, but not here. Asked for a glass of chardonnay and was told we don't sell it, they suggested albarino, but that's too sweet, imagine a wine shop with no wine !!. Bar felt cramped with the high counter, and large glass rack making it very difficult to see the display board. Toilets were a disgrace not alone was there no hot water, the rusty hand dryer didn't work, and the home made sign confirmed this,

This place was a real find quirky with friendly owners and staff. And the wine list was excellent. Also played brilliant music and you just can't fault the location, minutes from all the museums.

Had some mulled wines and charcuterie here on Sunday afternoon with wife and kids (grown ups). Agreed by all as a lovely sojourn and quite the way to punctuate a pleasant afternoon at Winterval...Waterford's Winter Festival.

We have been customers for years, recommended to all and bringing friends, family visitors. We have often brought our young daughter with us in the afternoon for a quiet glass of wine. To my dismay, at 4.30pm last Saturday (with only 2 tables in use) we were turned away and told no children allowed. No doubt when they are empty in January they'd be happy with the custom. The worst customer service I've experienced in Waterford, especially for regular customers.

Came across this wonderful gem of a place as we took a walk up the back streets off the promenade. Beautiful setting and wonderful attentive service. You wouldn’t feel more welcome in your Nanny’s house. Cannot recommend The Fat Angel highly enough.
