Umi Sushi - Winnipeg

For the past while the sushi has not been close to the quality of what I had been getting for a long while, and the prices have gone up yet the rolls are smaller. Time to look elsewhere! Not sure what changed but a noticeable difference!

I am reading other reviews and sort cant believe how much people are gushing about this place.... its very pedestrian and average. There certainly WORSE sushi places in winnipeg (Menji), but this actually very average sushi at best. small portions bland rice and super cheap on the wasabi and ginger, (I didn't realize there was a world-wide shortage) I guess none of these people have tried Momo. ordered: miso soup = decent/standardTempura Salmon Roll = bland rice and tastePhiladelphia Roll = bland rice and tasteFried California Roll = a new one for me, good concept but poor executionCalifornia Roll = bland rice and tasteTempura Yam Roll = bland rice and taste and mushy

Excellent Sushi, great Selections, fishes were fresh and done perfectly, excellent presentation service was polite, quick and quite honest about choices as well as most helpful.

We dined at Umi on a Sunday. After finding the old restaurant had closed, we finally found this one. We were seated and ordered our appetizer, after a few minutes the waitress came by and gave us a salad "on the house." After about 15 minutes the appetizer arrived. It was wonderful. We ordered a sushi boat as our main course. After about ten minutes the waiter brought us green tea "on the house" after another 10 he brought edemame, again "on the house". We sat for almost 30 minutes more as others came and went. Every table that arrived after us had been seated at least twice. We were about to leave when our food arrived. If it hadn't been so good we both would have asked for a discount or something. I don't know what the issue was but we certainly had one.

I was shopping nearby and needed a quick lunch. Upon entering, the place looks pretty small. But the food was delicious! After, I order extra to take home for supper. I will be visiting again soon
