One of my fave spots in York. Great place to escape the crowds. Fantastic spot for food, drink and to catch a movie. Loads going on. Staff very helpful and friendly. View all feedback.
What MVC499 doesn't like about The Riverside Cafe City Screen Cinema:
The blueberry Bakewell slice is very good. Sadly, the flat white on this occasion (and many others) was lukewarm. The queue is too long to go back to get the coffee sorted. Very disappointing. View all feedback.
Very cozy little theatre and given the size the screens are actually quite big, particularly when this is probably considered an indy cinema. The quality of the screen and the sound was definitely on par with anything you find at Vue or Odeon and I found that the seats and atmosphere was nicer. Beneath the screens is a small cafe where you can enjoy a drink or snack before the show. I went to see The Imitation Game there, and it felt like the perfect venue.
This restaurant is not only a great place to meet up with friends or relax, but also offers a variety of options such as watching a movie, enjoying a coffee or wine, or having brunch or lunch. You can choose to dine inside or outside with a splendid view of the river, although it tends to get crowded quickly on sunny days.
This movie theater in York is decent but not great. Given the limited options in the area, you'll probably end up here. It's a small theater within the city walls that is well-maintained, with a café at the entrance. There is a good variety of films being screened, although the showtimes may not always be the most convenient due to the limited number of screens. However, if you are a fan of extra butter on your popcorn, be aware that they do not offer it here. It may be healthier, but for butter lovers, it can be a major disappointment.
Great little theater in York! There is a bar area attached to the theater so you can grab a drink and a snack before your show. And, there are lots of drink and food/candy options for the movies, including a plethora of artisan snacks. Unfortunately, it 's a Pepsi vendor (womp womp). The seats in the theater were some of the comfiest I 've sat in, and the theater was super clean. Only bummer was that the bathroom was in the basement, so you had to hoof down the hall and two flights of stairs to use it, and rush back up to the show. Not a problem for myself, but if you, or someone you 're with, can 't get around very easily it might be a bit annoying. Would be my go to theater if I lived in the area.
Despite the Cineworld buyout, this is still a fantastic place to watch a movie. The best part? The well-behaved audience. I have been here many times and have never experienced the irritating moments that often happen in cinemas, such as people talking or misbehaving. The cinema also has a cafe/bar with delicious food and seating by the riverside, as well as a basement area that hosts various music and comedy events. While there aren't many screens available, they usually show a good mix of independent films and blockbusters, only facing challenges when major releases are on both sides. This place is a little gem for film enthusiasts, especially if you are near the city center. They offer an annual membership that is great value for regular visitors, although it's not the same as the unlimited viewing offered by Cineworld. The only downside is that the air conditioning has been broken once or twice in one of the screens, but it was promptly fixed, so it's not really worth mentioning. After all, we all have our off days!
