Yamamoto Japanese Cuisine - York

We made reservations ahead of time as we were a party of 28 coming together for a 85th birthday celebration. They offered to bring a variety platter of sashimi to start us off, which was nice and fresh. After that we were ordering from the menu. The food sometimes took time to be served and it would be nice if the wait staff named what they were putting down. The korean kalbi short beef ribs were good but each bone counted as a piece so we had to put 4-5 orders down at a time. Refillable soda drinks are included in the meal price so that is good. There is a few desserts which were small but that allowed you to sample several.

We found this place behind the Pacific Mall one day while we were shopping. It was very large and had a nice atmosphere. Their menu was okay but not the variety of rolls we are used to going to other all-you-can-eat sushi places. The food we were served was very good though. They don't have a separate lunch or dinner menu -- it is the same price all day. When we went last week they had a promotion where you get a free grilled half lobster with the purchase of every adult all-you-can-eat. The lobster was delicious but very messy! We paid $23.99/person, which is about average for an all-you-can-eat sushi spot.

I love Japanese food but I don't often go to AYCE restaurant because they usually won't provide the same food quality as a la carte restaurant. Yamamoto doesn't fall outside of this rule. However, I have to admit that their menu offer many choices and most of them are decent (in AYCE standard). I also appreciate that they are usually pretty busy so that it often means quick food cycle and give a better chance of serving fresh food, it is particularly important for raw ingredient. My kids like the variety of dessert they offered. Service is not great but not terrible. Serving portion is small but it doesn't work against them because I can order more. Price is on the high side and they will apply 10% on the bill.

Went on Nov. 12/2013 celebrating friend's birthday. Service 6/10, food quality 6/10, has a variety of dessert but only the icecream taste normal. Restaurant too noisy and dirty floor. Price too high for those quality of service and food, will not go back again and will not recommend to friends.

Went on July 14, 2013 for AYCE Lunch. $15.99. The menu is smaller than other AYCE restaurants so choices were limited. The food flavour was good, however, the servings were small; the sushi had a lot of rice; Rolls small.Service was just so, so. We ordered the various options and they kept shorting us on the quantities or not bringing the items. Service was slow but not unbearable, even though the place was only 30% full.For the price, there should be better service and options of choices.Desert - the Mango Yogurt was good. Very interesting presentation.I will not return.
