"Every now and again I treat myself to a large gluten free cod from The Market Plaice. Last night's as always, was absolutely first rate. Huge, fresh and golden. I don't know where the couple of recently posted, and highly suspect, negative reviews come from. For a start, they seem to refer to a visit to the upstairs restaurant which has not been open during the pandemic. Be assured, food is excellent quality. You get what you pay for. I can't wait for the licenced restaurant to re-open."

"Rooms: The rooms are small but very comfortable, warm, cosy and very clean a testament to the staff. There is a nice range of tea and coffee options a small television and USB charging ports for guest’s mobile devices. The bed was firm and we had a good night’s sleep on both the nights we stayed. Very good. Food drinks: There is a wide range of breakfast types available from cereals and yoghurts to cooked ‘full English’ varieties. We enjoyed a Full English both mornings and it was excellent. Good quality food, piping hot and cooked to perfection. Special thanks to Allie who was tremendously helpful to me on Sunday morning. Thanks too to the the lovely lady and the chef who put together some hot snacks before our ride arrived. We stayed later on Sunday to try the lunches, which were delicious. Noteworthy details: My wife and I stayed over for a couple of nights while we went to a nearby wedding. We found the hotel a lovely place to stay and the management and staff were outstanding with their helpful manner and friendly attitudes. "Poor customer service, no knowledge on allergies what so ever. Argumentative when they are in the wrong (batter with contains egg touched my son's food and he is allergic to egg) but apparently picking the batter off is ok?! No it's still touched so he can't have it. Attitude from the make and female was appalling and I am ringing food safety tomorrow to follow up allergen issues they think are fine. Will definitely not be going ever again. Can't even stress how angry I am with the their response to my son's food touching batter contain egg."

"We have just returned from an excellent afternoon at the Duke of York. The occasion was my mother's 80th birthday and we had circa 30 guests family and friends there for the afternoon in a private area. We have been planning this for a few months and talking to Imogen, who runs the pub, who has been excellent not only in listening to the detail and requirements of our event, but also giving advice and sharing her experience to help ensure that the quantities and timing of the food were right, and also being very patient and flexible when last minute changes were made from our side. On the day, everything was as it should be and the food was excellent. Again, seeing how the afternoon was flowing, she identified and suggested slight changes that really helped things run smoothly. Throughout, Imogen and the team were friendly and helpful, and we can't thank them enough for helping make my Mam's 80th a success. As I type this, I'm still getting messages from people saying how nice the venue and food was. And while it doesn't matter on an occasion like this, we were also very pleasantly surprised at the final bill! Thank you!"
