"I poked my nose in this restaurant several years ago for a look see and was not impressed but it has obviously been completely reconfigured since and has a new name. It is quite amazing inside as firstly you are not sure where you should be, it has a very classy foyer and then various elegant private dining rooms off, one with wall to wall fine wine. You then arrive at the bar around the corner and the main dining room is off that. The main dining room is very well presented in a traditional style, with black and gold tablecloths and very attractive crockery. We arrived a bit before our 2pm booking and we were the only ones in there, by the time we had finished it was full, mainly I would suspect from with local business people. The clientele were mainly Spanish as was the menu, and the staff do not speak English, if that is a problem for you; there were one or two items that we had not heard of, but the staff were happy to put us right. Our drinks order came quite quickly, the house red wine €10) was a pleasant Tempranillo which they decanted; and they brought warm ciabattas no alioli). Looking at the menu the Menu del Dia, it seems like they are only playing lip service to the notion, it was €18 for salad and three courses with a glass of wine. A choice of only 2 starters and 2 mains with Arroz con leche as the only desert, very uninspiring. The A la carte menu was typically traditional with no surprises or imagination, but plenty of choice. The 19 starters were very reasonably priced from €2.50 to €8, as were the desserts from €2.50 to €4. The mains were a little pricey, but again with plenty of choice, especially for the non meat eaters, with 16 fish dishes alone. I had a plate of Grilled Mixed Vegetables Verduras Variada a la Plancha) for my starter which at €3 was very reasonable, I have been charged more than treble that in other restaurants. Our dining companion had Champiñones a la Plancha con Gambas Mushrooms with Prawns). My main course was Pierna de Cabrito Asado baked leg of kid) with Patatas Pobre, it was all a little greasy, the meat a bit charred and the potatoes anaemic but still very tasty at €18. Our companions had Entrecote Steaks which I believe were about €14, again one looking a little charred, but delicious. And my other half had Bacalao al Horno con Crema de Gambas Cod in a Prawn Sauce) at €15 which she said was tasty but a little salty. The desserts, twelve to choose from, were the usual suspects but reasonably priced. Overall for four of us three courses with two bottles of wine, water and coffee the bill came to €108.50. I wanted to grade this restaurant more than Average but not Very Good unfortunately Good is not an option which is frustrating! Enoteca is an Italian word, derived from the Greek, which literally means ”wine repository”"

"Meson Irene used to be one of our favourite restaurants, which we'd visit every week whilst we were in Spain. However, during our last visit, the menus (and pricing) had undergone significant changes. Previously, wine was included on all set menus, (which were amazing value for money), and there was a wide choice available. Now the prices have increased significantly, but the quality just isn't there any longer. During this visit, my starter was inedible, the main course merely acceptable. I was so disappointed, I didn't want any dessert. The waiting staff are still lovely, and very helpful. I don't know whether Maison Irene is under new ownership or new management, but something is very wrong here. We haven't been back there for almost 5 months. I am keeping my eye out on the reviews, won't return till the reviews improve."
