"Food here was actually quite nice (slightly burnt potatoes aside) but the staff were sullen and dismissive. At the end of my meal I asked for the bill and requested to pay by card. The waiter disappeared without a word and another appeared stating 'No card, cash only ' then, pointing at my phone on the table demanded I leave that with him while I went to the cash machine (15mins round trip walk away). I was quite distressed by this as absolutely no where in the restaurant did it say you could not pay by card and I had not been advised about this before ordering. Now, rudeness of the waiter aside, I can understand to some extent why he would want something of mine to ensure I returned with payment for my meal BUT as a solo traveller 'millennial ' , my phone is not just a phone it is my plane boarding passes, train tickets, hostel addresses, camera etc. Absolutely horrible experience!"
