"By the time we were settled in our hotel in Lille, it was too late for lunch at a regular restaurant. So, we were happy to find Gorilla Food Coffee at rue Pierre Mauroy. It’s a friendly place with blonde wood tables and wall panelling, and a large food counter. The menu offers a good choice of light, organic food (soups, salads, pastas, bruschettas, wraps, and desserts). The bruschetta with ricotta and the salad we ordered were both surprisingly tasty. Prices were moderate, and the staff were super friendly."

"Great coffee, great food, good price but also super friendly, warm and welcoming staff. Our bill: We shared pancakes and still couldn't finish them, latte, filter and espresso for 24€ so for €12 per person we were very happy. Coffee: Very very good. On par with any 3rd wave specialty coffee shop you could name. Plus, nothing beats an owner-operated single location cafe/roastery. Space: HIDDEN CAFE! Walk through the entrance and the roasting space and the shop just keeps going and going. One of the most unique and inspiring spaces I have ever seen in coffee. It is full on natural light, on multiple levels, has 5 or more different sections painted in different colours and decorated with plants and comfortable furniture. Yet it still feels very cosy. Would visit in both summer and winter. Staff/Owner: Every staff member was so welcoming and friendly, I didn't feel bad about not knowing any French. Waly was on the espresso machine and said a friendly hello. When we asked which beans were on filter he brought us a bag and was so friendly he let us ask him a million questions about himself and the shop. This boy from Senegal had nothing but a backpack and has built a life, business and work family here in Lille and I think he genuinely loves making food and coffee for his customers. Do yourself a favour and visit, I would 100% be a regular if I lived in Lille."
