"I find myself in suffolk at the moment. only half an hour from london and the restaurant scene is completely changing. the roads are decorated with rustic pubs, the gastro style eating and perfectly cast pints of al, and the restaurants in the cities well it can be some real gems. with a good research naturally, finding a good restaurant, eating in is not difficult. a part of this search led us to a beautiful small town called lavenham. about a twenty minutes drive from bury st edmunds, this village really takes back in the time, with its medieval style huts, all revered to a slender, old style bakery sold cake for a bare twenty pence and a selection of restaurants to die for. After we had agreed on the visit of lavenham, was it until then where we would eat? I had a fabulous meal not so long ago in maison bleue in bury st edmunds, so when I found out that there was a sister restaurant in this small village called the great house, I could not resist and insisted to go. the restaurant is in a building from the 14th/15th. century housed, but renovated in the 18th century. sitting next to the huge imposing kamin in the dining room is certainly something to see. the other remarkable thing about restaurants outside of london is also the pricing. it's so much cheaper. here for lunch they pay £24.50 for a three course set lunch and wein from £4.95 for a big glass. one of the starters we choose from this menu was the fondue du pious. a hearty bowl filled with a cheese fondue, soft poached egg, poched new kartoffels and some crouton taucher served on the side. sumptuous, decadent, moreish I couldn't mistake this dish in the least, everything was just perfect. another starter was this beautifully decorated piece makrele, glazed with a rice vinegar and ingwerkaramel, squares of horseradish tofu and some shredded radishes for heat and bite in total was a little small, and"

"We booked here for a 60th Birthday dinner and can only praise Deb and her team for a wonderful evening could not fault the food or service and as there were 17 of us that was a feat in itself. It is a lovely village pub with a great garden for the summer months and plenty of parking too."
