"We were dropped off at Chewton Glen’s main doors and after explaining we were booked into the kitchen, were driven down the driveways to it. The staff were very friendly and accommodating clearing a table so we could sit by the window. The food was excellent. I had an Aphrodite cocktail which was divine then beautifully presented and tasty mushroom starters, then steaks cooked to perfection. The onion rings accompanying the steaks were the best I’ve ever eaten! There was no effort spared by the staff, attentive at all times and also concerned about my fish allergy even to changing the butter topping on my steak. Bonnie was lovely, our main waitress and was happy to have a little chat with us, when we were the final guests, about the place giving us lots of info and not rushing us off. The only negative was the profiterole desert rather heavy and chewy and had to send the ‘hot’ chocolate sauce back to be heated up! All in all though we had an amazing time and would definitely recommend."

"I was very surprised to find the restaurant totally empty. The lady on reception didn’t appear too familiar with the fact I had a table booked. Lovely room but it lacked any ambience as it was totally devoid of customers and was also quite cold. The food was lovely although they did bring the wrong order for one of the mains. Unfortunate as we were the only people there what would have happened had it been busy? When paying the bill I was generous enough to ask the waiter to add on a tip but was told they didn’t accept tips electronically. As I didn’t have cash with me they lost out. I have been to The Conqueror before and it was always excellent so this was a very disappointing visit. Wont go again."

"Great atmosphere, attentive staff that remembered my name, despite how busy it was (a first, and made a real difference) and best to eat tasty, served on massive teller that made it look like one of the chic restaurants that they don't feed next to anything, for lasting cash when in the did they give them a lot of food, for little money! a clever trick! it was great. we're coming back. Oh, if you go, and you should, I would recommend a booking. it can have to do. photos of steak and kidney cake, slowly boiled pig and a common panacotta. there is also one of our leberparfait with quittenstarter, but it was so delicious we just ate it."

"Came here on a busy evening last week and was suitably impressed. The scallops and the potted crab were both fantastic, and we each had a fillet steak, which was also really tender and perfectly cooked. The waitress that served us was absolutely excellent, it was her second week working here and is just learning about the wines which I’m sure she will master! The house sommelier, however, gave us excellent advice. We will be back!"
