"While the food was good and the service was good, the waiter brought each of us a glass of Kir, as well as a small bowl of olives, when we arrived. We were more than a little surprised to see £1.50 on the bill for each glass. We hadn’t asked for the drinks, and assumed it was a small goodwill gesture. One of us doesn’t even drink. It’s more than a little shady, imo. I’ve asked my French acquaintances, and none of them has heard of this practice. Too bad, it’s very shortsighted if the aim is to attract repeat customers. Four stars for the food."
