"So , we decided we wanted Japanese food and settled for this place based on others experience. Well my first thought was oh, it's on the ground floor of a high rise. Getting past the initial strangeness, it was positive from then on. Place was full at 2:30 pm so the wait was about 10 minutes. Ordered a pretty good menu selection and a sheet of the daily specials. Wanted a fish dish but being this late they kind of ran out of the 2 fish selection. That's ok , we decided to order a variety of 5 dishes for everyone to share. the food was well presented, decent prices, and tasted delicious! I am not a dark chicken kind of guy, but the chicken katsu did not taste one bit like dark meat- I loved it! Salad was fresh, everything was clean and service was excellent. Recommended !! Yes, the place looks more like a cafeteria but don't let the façade fool you. You will be pleasantly surprised."

"The most disappointing experience we have ever had. Let them know when making a reservation that it was my wife's 50th birthday. The occasion was recognized upon showing up to the restaurant. Usually, a restaurant will recognize a Birthday with maybe a dessert or something. This place did nothing. I will know now not to go here for any special occasion. So disappointed. Told waitress about it when paying bill and she knew nothing of it. I guess hostesses kept the secret to themselves"

"Very small dining room so be aware of your discussions lol. To start I had the scallops with bacon risotto, incredible flavor perfectly cooked and presented. My date had the Witloof salad, candied walnuts and aged gouda shavings, she enjoyed it immensely. For main course we had the steelhead, cooked rare and with love, very nice. I had the tenderloin and shortrib, i found the portion size to be a tad small for $43 though. The tenderloin was a little tough when i cut it, cooked perfect at medium rare though, just i have at much better filet cuts at the Onyx in White Rock and Global downtown. The shortrib however was bursting with rich slow cooked flavor goodness. (2 small strips maybe 2-3 oz under the tenderloin) Keep in mind these portions are not big by any means so make sure you have a starter. Creme Brulee was unremarkable, i did not finish. The only other thing that could use improvement is the servers trying to rush you to order, and the 5oz wine pours for $10. Cmon really? Coffee served in a french press was very good, $174 for 2 appys, 2 mains, 4 small glasses of wine, 1 port, 1 dessert, 1 coffeeTaxes and tip out the door at $225 approx"
