"We were disappointed today. Our booked table had not been prepared, despite all the reminders we, The food did come quickly the customers, received. Nobody was there to welcome us and we had to attract attention by making ourselves visible to the kitchen area. The food did come quickly when ordered. Unfortunately the tartare sauce had a skin on it so must have been left out from the previous day. It contained large lumps of gherkins and, unfortunately, a piece of sharp ,white plastic. This was reported but. produced no reaction. Having taken guests there, this was embarrassing. In addition, our table had not been cleaned properly after previous occupants had spilled salt and the ketchup bottle revealed a hard spike of old ketchup when the lid was opened."

"Disappointing customer service that was exceeded only by the more disappointing meal. We were shown to our table and waited for some sort of service which never came. We waited around ten minutes then grabbed the staff’s attention and asked for a menu. Apparently you get these yourself from the bar; who knew? The food arrived fairly quickly but was not good. My lasagne was very dry and quite tasteless. Someone should introduce the kitchen to Béchamel sauce. I’d sooner have a Charlie Bingham lasagne from Sainsburys, much more flavour. Even the side salad was drying out When we paid, the landlord didn’t even ask if everything was okay, so I guess he knew. Sub par meal with lacking service. We normally tip a minimum of 10%, but this time left zero except most of the meal! Would not visit again. What a shame."

"Very friendly. Pete and his staff are really welcoming and friendly, would recommend stopping here if you are looking to explore Whitby and the surrounding area, situated about 6 miles from Whitby in Egton village. Food is all home made and uses locally sourced meats and vegetables, nice selection of drinks and a lovely atmosphere with open fire and friendly locals. The accommodation is also Dog friendly too and there is a beer garden at the rear and benches at the front. Would definitely go back here"

"What a fabulous find! We called in for lunch with our grown daughter and sat outside in the lovely gardens. We ate from the lunch menu, I had the Stilton burger…amazing! We were so impressed we went back for my birthday lunch a few days later and ate from the a la carte menu. The quality of the ingredients and the cooking are just fantastic. We both had whitebait which was delicious. For main I had Tornados of Beef Fillet and my husband had steak with all the trimmings. Both were perfectly cooked again. The whole meal was full of flavour. I always forget to take photos of the food… too keen to get stuck in…but did take a couple of the charming bar area. This is a real traditional, English country pub. There were plenty of locals which is a good sign! The guy behind the bar was really friendly and although busy, kept things running smoothly and was attentive to everyone throughout If we lived closer, we would definitely use this place regularly"
