"I went with my partner to a special dinner here at Monk Bodhi Dharma, a 14 course special Vegan Degustation, held once a month on the last Friday of each month. The theme for the month of February was Italy vegan gluten free no onion no garlic ajurvedic . Everything about it was great – fantastic ambience and surroundings (high wooden ceiling), service was thoughtful, responsive and smooth, the food sublime, explosive and the rainbow of tastes beautifully crafted! Never thought that Vegan selection could be this good. On this occasion no alcohol was served with the meals however each course was accompanied by a different kombucha. The ragu and arancini were my favourites whilst my partner loved the melone “mare” and crostini. Just the right amount of time elapsed between courses, wait staff were very attentive but not intrusive. Even though Monk Bodhi Dharma operates as a well established café in Balaclava Melbourne, their once a month extravaganza presentation is very much up there with the top fine dining establishments in Melbourne and Sydney. A few things the top end of town could learn from Monk Bodhi Dharma especially the exquisite presentation and most of all the flavours. All of this without the pairing of fine wines! Who would have thought that a Vegan Degustation experience could have been so delightful without any alcohol present? . My partner for one, requires wine with every meal but on this occasion, she was absolutely oohing and aahing over every meal especially the sweet delicacy at the end. Having meals without wines is like having a freshly baked bread without olive oil or butter, or a Jack without his Jill! Well, Monk Bodhi Dharma certainly has achieved this and with awesome precision! Just quietly a few of Melbourne’s top fine dining operators were there that evening to sample Marwin’s (proprietor of Monk Bodhi Dharma) creativity and presentation of plant based meals. Were they there to pick up a tip or two? Hmmm, I would say so and I would boldly add that they were there simply to savour Marwin Shaw 's Vegan creativity... Martin Sorensen was the other collaborator behind the scenes in this fine dining experience. We 'd definitely be back for the next Degustation, we highly recommend Monk Bodhi Dharma!"
