"Muum Maam is a groovy and energetic Thai restaurant in Surry Hills which appears to be finding its feet. I tried several dishes including their signature shredded banana salad prawns, crispy pork belly with snake beans and crispy crabs and prawn rice net spring rolls (pardon for the long names).

The shredded banana salad prawns are awesome. The complex taste of the sour unripe banana and sweet fat prawns are bound to tantalise any tastebuds, even for predominantly carnivores like me. The complementary prawn crackers were also fascinating and tasty.

However, the fried spring rolls and crispy pork belly were disappointing. Both were overfried and tasted rock hard. The snake beans, which I believed were poached, tasted raw. A better option would be to blanch the snake beans with hot oil until the exterior became crunchy. The pork belly was so hard that it lost all its original texture and it resembled the prawn crackers more.

Muum Maam's dining concept is refreshing and different from other Thai institutions. However, they have to improve on their food."

"Tried quite a few things from the menu, standouts were the swordfish cheeks (worth the wait) and the tempura camembert !
The swordfish cheeks really stood out. I don’t usually like grilled fish such as mackerel because it’s usually over cooked and dry, thankfully the soft, fatty cheeks didn’t have such a problem. Swordfish is not traditionally as fatty as other fish like salmon, so having cheeks really gave it the required flavour without feeling like a hunk of meat.
Next best thing we’re the camembert tempura. A twist on the baked Camembert dish and honestly not too hard to prepare, however I gave it extra points for ingenuity given the paucity of cheese in much of Japanese cuisine. Tempura batter differs from western fried chicken style batter by its lightness, which still allowed the cream of the camembert to shine as it oozed from the batter.
The sushi rolls and sashimi were nothing special."

"What a great fund : simply stumbled over this place under the building monument apartment and glad that I did it. the dizzy dump, which with premium pork fillet, which a buttery pork, envelops in a cushion soft emptying coat. then with the deensalat, which had a large balance of sweet and spicy, with delicate entenfilets: they wanted to edit my way through their menu, they had a great choice and very favorable. highly recommended"

"I used to live just around the corner and I loooovvveee this place. I saw it from the first day they opened. Recommended dishes are:
1. Crab fried rice - MUST MUST MUST try.. so good, they added tomato just at the end to add just enough moisture to the rice. I've travelled a lot and this crab fried rice is UP there!
2. Market fish, fried with salad on top - don't know the exact name but this was a GOOD dish. The waiter will tell you what kind of fish they have on the day ... but it doesn't really matter.... I've had several types they were all good ... fresh, not fishy at all
3. The vermicelli salad with spring roll and bbq pork. Again, can't fault this dish.... so so GOOD. If you're looking for a fresh meal... this is it! The dressing was good, not oily, not too salty, not too sweet. The salad was fresh..

They are always packed so you better call first and you can leave your phone number so that they can contact you when your table is ready....

Plus, they have... read more"

"Super quick and staff were friendly. Cozy little place 5 mins walk from Sydney central station. Decor was warm and inviting. Good Thai food with a modern twist. Our favourite was the pad see ew, not overly sweet like most Thai restaurant."
