"There are hundreds of small Portuguese corner bars all over Funchal but this one is wonderfully different. It is always busy and this is due to the hard working and ever present Manuel (a big guy with an even bigger heart) and Joana. Clients are 99 percent Portuguese but everyone, including minimal Portuguese speaking visitors, is given the same respect. Refrigerated glasses are used for the draft Coral beer (1.2 Euros) along which a free bar snack is always served. Manuel will make you a genuine icy cold home made Poncha for 2 Euros but, please, stop at one! In short, if you are in the vicinity of the English Church on Rua do Quebra Costas, you owe it to yourself to drop in for a coffee (try the cappuccino style strong Chinesa) in the morning or something stronger as the sun approaches 11 in the morning."
