"Cute little King Street cafe on the St Peters end of Newtown. Friendly service, good coffee and simple but delicious menu. Breakfast fave is the avocado on toast perfectly seasoned with salt, pepper, a dash of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon and also a good selection of pies for lunch."

"This place is so fantastic, I really recommend it to all people, vegan or not! The food is delicious, and not just the fried menu items. Their salads/soups are hearty, healthy and fresh. Love the fish salad with satay and eggplant! Service is above and beyond: they really cater for a broad range of dietary needs as the food is all plant based and cruelty free but they are also explicit about what does/does not have gluten, onion and garlic."

"If you're the kind of person who's nostalgic about the smell of VB soaked carpets, and is excited about the fact that you cannot sit outside past 10 pm,"

"The train wasn't going at 1:20pm on a Saturday and the place was pretty empty...I'd just walked past Sushi Train up the road and they were packed so I don't what the problem was here. The upshot was that I had to order off the menu. You can order the train-sized serves of sushi, sashimi and basic rolls but the prices were higher than any other trains that I can think of. Fancy rolls were only sold as the whole thing or in a set so you'd be having a single order as your meal or sharing among a group (I got a set that combined sushi and rolls and reduced the price a fair bit, so look at them). And then it took 25 minutes for the food to come out. They have a decent alcohol list but no tap beer. The fish was good quality, maybe the best in Newtown, but the whole experience was poor value."

"I like the 212 platter to share, sides are quite various so it's good to have different stuff. Once, I also took a special for brunch time, it was very good but the quantity was quite poor so I was a bit disappointed."

"Have always loved 1989 for casual nights out with friends, but most recently hosted a work function where we hired the whole venue and it was a roaring success. Cannot speak highly enough of how straight forward and easy it was to arrange the event, including upfront pricing with no hidden extras. Ben at 1989 was also so accommodating when it came to specific needs for our group, covid postponements and all the rest and on the night the staff were fantastic. If you're looking for a party venue, 1989 is a great option!"

"This place has been on the "To Munch" list for quite a few years now.
I thought it was ok but my husband loved it.
The flavours, design and presentation of the degustation was what was expected. A bit quirky with a side of flavour. I felt that the flavours wasn't that amazing. For example the fish and chips looked very cool but tastes like fish that you could taste yourself. The wagyu was my most preferred dish.

Service was ok. They asked at the start if we were allergic or had any food requirements. I said I read that there's licorice in one of the dishes and asked if I could have any alternative which they did go to the chef. Their reply was that as we had only advised now that there is no alternative which I completely understand but then what's the point of asking if there's any food requirements. My suggestion is have a read of the degustation items before hand to check and advise before the day of your meal for things you don't like.
