"It's become a tradition for my son and I to have dinner at Jules at the end of every school year to celebrate another (generally) successful conclusion to his studies. We always finish our meal with creme brûlée for dessert and a photo of him cracking the burnt sugar topping. So ... another grade done by the end of June and another meal at Jules!Jules is located in the Gastown district of Vancouver and is the old commercial area when the city began growing in the late 1800's and early 1900's. After a revival in the early 1970's gave the area new life, it grew a bit tired and shabby - for us locals, you can only tolerate so many souvenir/trinket shops etc. geared for tourists! Thankfully the area seems to be on an upswing again, with a lot more new shops, restaurants, coffee houses and bars, plus quite a few design and furniture stores as well. Jules fits in very well with this vibe, and has been feeding locals and tourists alike for a number of years now, through thick and thin. It's just one of those places that seems to "have been there forever." The restaurant is located in a heritage building so the tile floors and exposed brick walls help lend a bit of timelessness to the place.The menu has all those French bistro faves - steak frites, mussels, pate etc. Jules isn't trying to bust the formula of classic French cuisine; I think they're happy to serve good, solid, consistently well-prepared food for their patrons. The serving staff are friendly and efficient at their jobs, without delivering any of the stereotypical Gallic attitude. Hey! They even offer ketchup (along with aioli) with the fries! Altogether, the food and service, coupled with a comfortable sized dining area, make for a pleasant evening out.The only change I was sorry to see on our latest visit was the absence of Jules' host, who my son and I always met in previous visits. We found out tonight that he's retired. We wish him all the best in this next chapter of his life and thank him for his hospitality over the years.Jules Casual French Bistro is definitely a restaurant worth visiting if you find yourself in need of a good meal while shopping or touring Gastown."

"Love that it is a totally user-free environment! casual, super friendly the staff was amazing. good food, fast service good price. had a few delicious cocktails was happy, they were under $10 per when in vancouver it is very easy to spend $18 on a single drink. go our new favorite quarters, plan to be regular!"
