"My sense of direction is poor, to say the least, and it was only on my 3rd attempt to find Phil’s Burger Bar, in Krefeld that I was successful, not that it’s difficult to find, it’s just me. I had been craving for a Not Fast Food Burger… by which I mean not Fast Food as in Junk Food…. I guess one way and another we have all been conditioned into expecting service on demand with drive thru’s and the like…. and my Phil’s burger did take a while to arrive…. hence my “not fast food” title. But, it was a sunny day, I was in no hurry and each dish is prepared lovingly, by hand. The restaurant bar is nicely decorated, with seating outside, the only real concession towards Hipsterdom was that the cutlery is presented in a tin can, the decor in general, very slick.The bar offered a wide selection of drinks and cocktails boasting an impressive range of gins, one in particular made in Krefeld itself. I had 2 diet colas along with my bacon and egg burger. This was stuffed with a fresh and crispy salad and a choice of dips. I’m not sure if they were on the menu but I think the addition of American styled chutney such as tomato or sweet corn would have enhanced this none-the-less tasty offering.The crowning glory however, were the sweet potato fries, I have never tried these before, and I assume the extra crispiness was down to the fibre content, but, oh yes, absolutely scrumptious.The other pleasant surprise was that the whole meal, inclusive of drinks and tax, , was only 18 euros. Not fast food at all… but well worth the wait. Go there!"
