"Ein sehr schönes Hotel - aber auch mit Schwächen Tolle Lage - mitten im Zentrum - direkt vor der Tür steht man schon auf dem wunderschönen Marktplatz.Der Name ist etwas irreführend- das Hotel ist ein (gelungener) Neubau - von den historischen Gebäuden stehen im Wesentlichen nur noch die Fassaden.Sehr gut: die moderne Parkgarage direkt neben dem HotelNicht gut: Die Anfahrt - das Navi lotst einen in eine sehr enge Gasse - nur 20 Meter vom Hotel - um von dort zur Garage zu kommen braucht man ca 2 km rund um die Altstadt - mit sehr vielen Abzweigungen - ein netter Nachbar hat uns wieder aus dem Labyrinth herausgelotst - das hat er wohl schon oft gemacht! Danke! Liebes Hotel - bitte geben Sie Ihren Gästen eine Anfahrtsbeschreibung!Sehr gut: das schöne Frühstücksbüffet - die Auswahl lässt keine Wünsche offen.Service und Freundlichkeit: mal so, mal so Frühstücks- Personal wirkt etwas überfordert.Hotelbar: unfreundlich und überteuert!Zimmer: sehr schön, komfortabel, sauber, gut möbliert.Bad: sehr schön, sauber und geräumig. Duschen in der Badewanne - mit hohem Ausstieg - nichts für Senioren auf wackeligen Beinen!Was leider fehlt ist ein Balkon, Terrasse o.ä. Um sich abends noch ein wenig raus zu setzenIn Summe: schön und empfehlenswert, wird aber den Ansprüchen nicht ganz gerecht!"

"Discovered by chance on our first visit to Wernigerode in 2008 (to visit the HSB railway, see separate review). Excellent local and authentic German restaurant, full of locals. Rather formal when first approached to make a booking (even though we have a German-speaker in our group). Clearly exists on regular clientele and does not need passing trade like us. Menu is all in German but clear enough. Separate pages for Pork, Game and Fish dishes though we thought not many beef main courses. Not a criticism. The wine list has most items priced very closed together and available by the glass as well (about 11-14 Euro per bottle in Feb 2013). Only curious practice to English diners is the regulars all seem to eat very early. We book each time for around 8pm and find we are eating our main course on our own by 9pm! And the outward-opening street door which actually doesn't, we get that wrong each time. Great care is taken with the cooking and with presentation. Terrific wild mushroom soup. Eccentric and charming decorations around the walls. Has a strong homely feel to it. Split level, there are stairs up to the toilets and the mini-bar area at the back."
