"Only the ‘Well-heeled’ visit Zürich, is what a few friends said. We were unprepared for our first night and just stupid on our second night. Our first evening dining experience resulted in one of us choosing to leave the restaurant before committing to a costly error of judgment. On our second night, we didn’t check the reviews. We saw Fondue and assumed it would be a pleasant experience, possibly a bit touristy but we are tourists and that can’t be dismissed. Ok, my rule is (usually) only 3 stars and above. Below that and a venue doesn’t deserve the oxygen of publicity. Le Dézaley provides food that is edible, well cooked and like any and every other place in Zürich, priced to shock first time visitors like us. I can’t complain about the food, other than it was expensive composited with the same dish in another country. Our waiter was ask tall overbearing chap, not accustomed or wary of his proximity to his customers. He mistook every thing we asked for in favour of something more expensive and ignore our responses when he offered something we didn’t want. This was us being ‘worked’ as tourists. Everything was angled to make more from us than we wanted to spend and when we got something he didn’t want to sell us, like the wine, we got a bottle of something an habitual morning drinker would think twice about choosing. As we paid, our waiter asked for a tip. You read that correctly, he actually asked for a tip, over and above the statutory 2.5% on all Swiss food bills. He didn’t get it. As a result, our experience was soured. The concerning thing was that the venue was busy with lots of people wanting that ‘fondue’ experience. We simply didn’t like it."

"We had the course dinner paired wines. We thoroughly enjoyed the hours we spent there. Every course as well as the amuse bouche were incredible, both in taste and in looks. The plates themselves were boring (all white) compared to what we've...seen elsewhere but that's probably by design: so we focus on the food itself. The pace was also great throughout the dinner. The wine pairing is really expensive (more expensive than the meal itself) which is a bit outrageaous, but we'd say at least half the wines really were fantastic extensions of the corresponding food, which isn't always the case (sometimes it's just a nice pairing, but not really that magical chemistry), so we'd recommend it. If you'd like to save and don't want to be too drunk at the end of the meal or throw away half the wine, you can ask to share one wine pairing for Probably an outrageous thing to do, but we resent paying and then throwing away so much good wine so this arrangement works great for us."

Perfekte Planung, grosses Kompliment!Billig wird es hier aber nicht, die Portionen sind knapp gehalten und weil es so lecker ist, bestellt man wieder nach.Wir kommen wieder!"

"La Bastide is another of those surprising and hidden places that get known by word-to-mouth. The location doesn't help, as it's set in the middle of a mini-industrial zone, itself in an office neighbourhood, what's more quite removed from the Centre. Nevermind, La Bastide is basically a French wine & liquor place, and they have a small (but very popular) lunch counter which serves freshly-made baguette sandwiches with your choice of meat, cheese, veggies, toppings. Other snacks are available too, all at a very reasonable price. What's more, La Bastide has a small but very interesting collection of little French specialties which are near-impossible to find in Zürich, i.e., foie gras, magret de canard, special condiments (like mustard), and cheese. The selection of Calvados (bottles are available for all years since the 1930's) is spectacular. Of course these items will be slightly more expensive.There is no seating (except ad-hoc street seating in the summer months), and it's just next to a loading dock, so really a quick snack place, but infinitely superior to any kind of snack you can get anywhere for miles around. Definitely recommended, if you can find it!"
