"My husband and I hired Siganos to cater our wedding in Chania and let me just say the food Siganos made was absolutely EXCELLENT. My husband and I are both Greek and our backgrounds are of Cretan descent, so it was extremely important to us to have the best of the best when it came to our wedding food. That is why we hired Siganos. I am not kidding when I say every single person at the wedding came up to us raving about how every meal they ate was beyond exceptional. Even the Greeks from Greece were blown away by how amazing the food was. No one had upset stomachs that night, just hearty full bellies. That to us was the biggest accomplishment of the night, no joke lol (we take our food seriously). For appetizers we selected Cretan Ntakos, Fried Calamari, Steam Mussels Saganki. For salads we did a traditional Cretan salad and a green salad w/ veggies, tomatoes, honey vinaigrette, and pasteli crumbles. For mains we selected Lamb Antikristo, seafood risotto in a white wine sauce, youvetsi, lemon chicken, lemon potatoes, and grilled veggies. For dessert we selected loukoumades (which they make at the venue so they’re fresh), galaktompoureko baklava bites, and vanilla ice cream to go with the cake since the wedding was in the middle of July. We opted for a buffet instead of a serving type of menu because half of our guests came from America. We wanted them to get a variety of Cretan/Greek food and be able to taste a little bit of everything. And the “buffet” isn’t exactly a buffet as you think where they call each table up to go to the buffet. Siganos actually plates all the food in big dishes and puts it on the table for the guests to select from. So I would say it was more like “family style”, which was perfect because that is how Greeks/Cretans eat in general. It felt so homey and authentic. Siganos even brought my table vision to life and set everything up the way I outlined it for them. Now you’re probably wondering why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5. There are 2 things I will warn you about: (1) Communication and (2) Asking them to plate your uneaten food and give you the cake. I am not sure if it’s custom in Greece for them to give you leftover food, but being the bride and groom, you are so busy the entire time you don’t really have time to eat. We didn’t last more than 3 minutes sitting down by ourselves before someone was coming up to ask us a question or congratulating us. We didn’t even touch our dessert because we weren’t at our seats. I wish Siganos would have boxed up our food/dessert and given it to us afterwards so we at least had something. Also, we got our cake from a local bakery in Chania. The only time I ate the wedding cake was when we cut the cake in front of our guests. We didn’t even get to keep our cake afterwards and we were so sad about it the next day when we realized nothing was left behind. Now as far as communication, I want to preface by saying Gianni is super nice and great to work with, but communication is a bit slow because he is the only one managing the emails that come in and out for the entire year, so things get backed up. Granted I didn’t have a wedding planner and I did everything on my own, but there would be times I would be stressed because I wasn’t hearing from Gianni and had to contact my wedding venue to get in touch. I know Gianni is 1 person and tried to cut some slack, but I would have to reach out like 3 or 4 times over the course of a month before hearing anything back. I think if they fixed these 2 things, they would easily exceed 5 stars. The food was truly amazing and I would hire them again just based on the food and ensuring certain things went a bit different the 2nd time around knowing what I know now. Also one last tip, be careful of how many people are in your contracted number. Don’t just assume having under X amount of people that the price will remain the same (even though it is not stated in the contract). Make sure your contracted of guests is as close to the amount of people you’re really expecting."
