"Great. Im picky. Ex-barrista. Ex Seattle-ite. GF except for my 1 a year choco. Croissant. Excellent combo or pastry, authentic choc. Oaxaceño calient and a cup of slow filtered cup brew. Perfectly small, unpretentious, and friendly. Good lighting for book reading (a selection to choose from in house as well. Its not trying too hard. I look specifically for these types of places to take a break from my travel hubby. Must come if you'd like to try a handful or coffe/hot chocolate places during your trip. Coffee not bitter. They have OAT milk! Salud!"

"We had seen Flor de Oaxaca when we had stopped for coffee at El Lobo Azul opposite, asked to see the carta and found that there were dishes on the menu that we did not see in any of the restaurants in Oaxaca aimed more...directly at tourists. Unfortunately, we were the only customers there all evening, but the food was good and the Crema de Elote (sweet-corn soup) was the best that I have had for three years, and we had splendid Tongue dishes and local Tamales for main courses; if we had a niggle at all it was that a bottle of Chilean Merlot cost more than the rest of the meal put together (two courses each plus coffees). The television was left on throughout (presumably for the benefit of the serving staff) and was showing a ridiculous and incomprehensible game show which reminded me of the sketches in The Fast Show which parody ridiculous and incomprehensible foreign game shows. Beneath the TV was a large notice saying “Se paga sólo con el efectivo” (ie. cash only) and I would respect their right not to take credit cards and to expect to be paid in the local currency rather than Euros, Vietnamese Dongs or US Dollars."

"This is a very small restaurant, not easy to find, but worth the effort. They offered a four-course comida corrida for 60 pesos. This included soup, salad, main dish, and dessert, plus fruited water and bread or tortillas. That day the soup was cream of...mushroom, the salad crisp lettuce and jicama, the dessert thinly sliced bananas with a drizzled sweet topping. My husband had a chicken dish and I had a relleno with banana replacing the usual corn coating and stuffed with black beans and cheese--absolutely delicious. The only down side is that the restaurant is on a very busy street and is open on the front. However, it is set back some from the street, and we choose a table at the rear so as to avoid some of the noise and possible fumes. We were fine."
