"Very good cuts, great meal. Coming from the likes of Hawksmoor, Smith and Wollenskys and Goodman in London (and Morton’s in New York last month to dining at a provincial chain in Reading, I wasn’t expecting much. Miller and Carter Reading were quite poor indeed by comparison so I imagined they set the bar low, that this was the standard of service you get from a typical chain restaurant outside the capital. However I was very wrong indeed. Cuts of steak, (up to a 600g sirloin! preparation, marinades were very tasty indeed and good quality, the service was first rate and all things considered added up to a very enjoyable occasion. Thanks very much guys. One small request, ordering medium well doesn’t usually equate to rare in the middle for me but the cut was so good just to hold it under the flame for a few more seconds seemed like an unnecessary additional request, and I may have misunderstood the Argentinian benchmark. For those used to a more UK centric dining experience, I would suggest a translation of medium well medium rare here, but maybe that was just a one off based on the size of the cut I ordered. Otherwise five stars and hope to be back."

"The food at the Brayford View Restaurant was ok, nothing bad enough to complain about, but the prices they charge are over the top for such barely average food. We could've gone along the road to Wetherspoons and had just as good for a fraction of the price. It was convenient to eat in the hotel on such a cold night though. The starters were chicken liver pate which was nice enough, but a bit skimpy. The first two main meals we tried to order were sold out, both fish dishes, and the restaurant wasn't even busy. That's just plain bad planning. Our third choice was a chicken and mushroom pie which had more gravy than anything, very little chicken. It tasted ok, but was poor quality for £18.50. We asked for a wine menu and were told there wasn't one. We ordered a bottle of Merlot, which was fine, but very expensive for what it was. Our young waiter was very good, and apologetic about the sold out dishes. He was just attentive enough. The bill came to just under £80 for a very average meal. It was the first time we'd been out for a meal for a long time and we left feeling a bit disappointed to be honest. Even when we arrived in the restaurant in the morning for breakfast, our name was missing from their table planning list, so that was a bit disorganised. So, all in all, not the best experience, and that was on top of a mix up at reception when we were checking in. Overall not a great impression of the place."

"Thatchers has not received our booking via open table and the restaurant has been closed for a high-time day. the low ambience score was because the restaurant was set up for the show and we were disturbed by visitors and not everything else. the staff went out to find us a table and still fed us. the food was also super, large part, and the staff really friendly. I wouldn't have asked from the team anymore."
