"Having been impressed with the cuisine at this establishment last October I was looking forward to returning here this spring. Heuriger (Traditional inns usually serving their own wine or cider) are to be found throughout the Vienna woods and there is nothing nicer than to settle down at one of their wooden tables to enjoy a glass or two of wine and some good Austrian fare. The Mostheuriger Karner is no exception situated as it is under the Peilstein outcrop; an area renowned for walking and rock climbing.A comprehensive menu is augmented by a large array of cold meats and a salad bar to die for! Last October I started with a selection from the salad bar: one is given a plate and greed overcomes you as you try and pile everything on it! My main course comprised gilled Bluzen (Austrian blood sausage so superior to anything you can find in the UK) on a bed of sauerkraut prepared with wine and speck with some perfectly roasted small potatoes. I was in heaven. This May the salad bar did not disappoint but somehow the Bluzen did not live up to my previous expectations. Instead of a locally produced whole bluzen, cut and grilled lengthways, I was presented with rounds of what appeared to be a commercially available product and the potatoes seemed to be some reheated frozen apology of roast potatoes which were hard and uncooked in the middle. The sauerkraut though had been well prepared and was tasty. Three others in the party opted for the pork cutlets and these were a great disappointment being hard and dry with not much flavour. Most of them ended up in a doggy bag! A wide range of wines and beer is available but as the name suggest their speciality is cider (most) of the very best quality.Because of my previous visit I am happy to give this establishment four stars and hope that the quality of their cooking will improve as the season progresses."
