"My husband and I walked into this restaurant for dinner last Friday evening. We didn't have a reservation, so there was some confusion as to where we could sit. Once we did sit down, it took a good ten minutes before anyone spoke to us....We kept watching the wait staff go back and forth among the tables, pouring wine. No one so much as stopped to say hello or tell us they'd be right with us. It wasn't very welcoming, and we gave a thought to leaving. In retrospect, it's too bad we didn't. My husband ordered potato pancakes with marinated salmon. I tried to order entrecote, but the waiter evidently didn't hear me correctly. I had an inkling something was wrong when he didn't ask me how I wanted the steak cooked or which sauce I wanted. Instead, he said Okay grabbed the menus, and quickly took off, not to be seen again until the food arrived. We ordered a bottle of wine and it was held hostage on a table with everyone else's wines, to be poured only when the wait staff got around to it. I don't mind the wait staff pouring my wine when they are able to be attentive. Unfortunately, that was not the case on Friday night, and instead of it being good service, it was more of a nuisance. over, I definitely needed the wine to be able to get through the regrettable dining experience. When our food arrived, my husband got his potato pancakes, while the waiter tried to serve me sauerkraut and pork. When I informed him that pork and sauerkraut wasn't what I'd ordered, he proceeded to argue with me, telling me that if I had asked for a steak, he would have asked me about the temperature and the sauces. In other words, he was claiming that I didn't actually say what I'd said, not that he hadn't heard me correctly. Anyone can make a mistake. I used to wait tables myself, so I tend to be fairly forgiving over service issues. I was pretty shocked, though, that this man was actually arguing with me about what I'd ordered. Why would I lie about it? He can't know this about me, but I don't even like sauerkraut. I guarantee I would not have voluntarily ordered it under any circumstances. On the plus side, after a rather tense exchange with the waiter, they did bring our bottle of wine to us so we could drink it at will. Anyway, they took the sauerkraut away, but then came back and encouraged me to accept it, since if they prepared a steak for me, we'd have to wait for it. I got the impression that they would have preferred it if we would just leave. I was hungry and beyond annoyed, so I agreed. My husband graciously took the pork and kraut and I took his salmon pancakes... one of which was very scorched. A different waiter took care of us for most of the rest of our visit and he was much more professional. I think if we'd had him from the start, my impressions of this restaurant would be markedly better. We ordered a round of after dinner drinks after our main course and he served them with grace and style. That helped make up for the bumbling experience we had with the first server and it's the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one. My husband and I live in Germany and we've visited Ribeauville four times since January 2017. I can promise we won't be visiting Restaurant Du Mouton again. There are too many better places to eat in Ribeauville and its environs. If you check my record, you'll see that I don't write a lot of negative reviews, but I left Restaurant Du Mouton feeling insulted and irritated. I saw the owners of this hotel in attendance on Friday night with their cute little daughter. They looked like nice people. I can't believe this is the impression they would want people to have of their establishment. For future reference, when there is a mistake with an order, the correct response is not an argument and a vague accusation that a guest is lying; it's an apology, followed by a question. For example: I'm sorry about the mistake. What can I do to make it right I promise that if that was how the waiter had approached the situation, my reaction, and this review, would have been much more favorable."
