"Look, I'm not one to write reviews. Life's too short to waste complaining about the bad restaurants, and even great restaurants can have a coldness to them and don't really inspire me to run to my computer. My wife and I live in San Francisco, and we're lucky to have many incredible restaurants near us, but this place outside of Lisbon with a relaxing atmosphere and only a short walk to the beach is something else. We stopped in as we were visiting beaches nearby. We asked for razor clams since we love those, but our waiter told us they didn't have them that day. We asked what he suggested. He took us over to where they kept their fresh fish and explained his preferences. With his encouragement, we ended up going with the fisherman's prawn stew and the sea bass, and it was one of the best meals we had in Europe (& we've been here for 30 days visiting amazing restaurants in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, & others). The prawn stew and sea bass were seasoned and cooked to utter perfection with every bite. Not only were our main dishes absolutely delicious, but the two types of bread, tomato purée, olives, cheese, and herbed butter they brought out in the beginning were outstanding. We would've never thought of ordering them, so we were delighted he took the initiative. Our waiter was fun, friendly, encouraging, and very patient as I talked to him like a toddler in my terrible Portuguese. His recommendations were fantastic, and he really made our afternoon. Even the cook, who I passed by, was warm and friendly as I complimented her and told her that her cooking was amazing. Earlier, my wife and I remarked that the food tasted like we were being treated at someone's home whose mother or grandmother was an excellent professional chef. After meeting the woman in charge of the food, I don't think we were that far off from our assessment. We'd already planned on returning to Lisbon one day, but this restaurant with its close proximity to beautiful beaches really helped seal the deal. If there's any justice in the world, this place will be around for awhile."
