"Ever since I was a kid I’ve loved Tuna Melts. I remember making them myself in the toaster oven and doming the top of the tuna with lots of gooey cheeses or visiting the Sand and Sea Club in the summer (before 90210 and Saved By The Bell starting shooting there) with my best friend and running up from the beach to get tuna melts and french fries for lunch. I still love tuna melts. Now however, I make them much more exotic with all kinds of ingredients; tomatoes, onions, avocado, mustards, spicy mustards, all kinds of cheeses and spicy pepper salads, basically anything I can come up with. My rule, which I feel should be implemented nationwide is to be called a Tuna Melt, they MUST be open faced. It’s not a tuna melt if it’s served with a top bun. That’s a patty melt with tuna. Very different. Putting a top bun on a tuna melt and still calling it a tuna melt is like masturbating with both hands and calling it a threesome.
