"Such a surreal experience. We arrived and were seated right away and then it took over 15 minutes for someone to come to the table and take our order. We ordered wine and fish and chips, the wine came quickly but even though we ordered the same sizes, one glass was extremely overfilled, and the other had much less than the ordered amount. I asked the waiter to give me more to fill the glass to the correct amount and he did happily, but it took forever. After waiting over 30 minutes for two orders of fried fish and chips we finally asked why it was taking so long and they realized that due to some error of theirs the order had not been placed, so they made it quickly (took under 3 minutes from when we mentioned until when we got it after waiting over 30 minutes originally). The waiter apologized and offered to refill our drinks for free. Then he said the drinks would be taken off the bill so we were happy. The food came and it was very good. However, when we went to pay, we saw that they still charged us for the drinks, and when we asked to split the bill, we were actually charged more than the bill (the waiter calculated “half” of the bill which was actually more than half). So not only did we wait an insane amount of time for fried fish, we also paid more than we originally should have. We were too tired to argue, and we were late to our train (we already missed one train because the food took so long) so we just paid it so we could finally leave. It’s too bad because we liked the food and the atmosphere, but the service issues were a nightmare so I’m not sure we can recommend the dine-in service. Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4"

"2/12/23 The Worst Christmas Party Night I have ever been to Starter Prawn Cocktail Bit of chopped iceberg lettuce with couple of spoonfuls of prawn cocktail no bread on my plate and you only got 1 triangle of bread Main Beef Beef so tough couldn’t eat it Mash Luke warm Veg so over cooked Yorkshire pudding definitely not homemade Glad I didn’t have dessert Bar in corner if you could call it a bar No Atmosphere Downstairs was the music which was rubbish no atmosphere down there either. So we left and went elsewhere I left a Birthday present there and couldn’t phone until Wednesday to ask if it had been handed in. Spoke to manager who said he would ask his staff but had no phone call back to let me know if it had been handed in. Would not recommend"

"If you eat-in they serve the chips in a mini replica frying basket (wrong) and there is no vinegar on the table just a wedge of lemon on your plate (wrong). Ketchup is in sachets instead of a sqeezy bottle (wrong). On the positive, the food is tasty and the service is fast. As importantly, the business name has a pun in it which is essential for a chippy: this plaice used to be called The Fat Friar with an image of a monk. As a result I had boycotted it for years as the pun only works if it had been named The Fat Fryer . You need to maintain standards."

"My friend and I went for Christmas lunch today, everything was perfect from the delicious food and the amazing staff, always so friendly and attentive nothing is ever too much trouble , we felt very spoilt We both had the same three course’s , Garlic breaded mushrooms to start, Roast Turkey with all the trimmings and Mint and dark chocolate cheesecake just melted in the mouth, we finished our meal with a coffee each and brought home a selection of homemade sweets It’s a lovely way for us to start our Christmas celebrations Thank You to all of the staff you are amazing"
