"This place can be extremely crowded, and they may have to wait for a past to come. but it is worth every minute of it. I have read a lot of reviews that say that eating is average, and I do not agree to some extent. although it is not top notch it is still really good, with amazing trips for what they get. if I had to point out what I did not (real) like, is that the drinks are very watered (I am talking about the sour as I am a big fan), but the variety is amazing. and the variety does not stop with the drinks. While this is essentially a Yakitori restaurant, the menu extends far beyond it and even includes the hot takoyaki (considering not to burn the insides of her mouth, I will return without doubt to this place when I am in kyoto."

"Pardon the pun. Went here with my ex who spoke fluent Japanese, so no communication issues. We sat cross-legged in a small room across from a trio of elderly Japanese women. That was memorable, but it might be less sociable if one's Japanese is poor or one doesn't have a fluent friend. The food was medium to high-end Shojin ryori: delicate, subtle and some of the prettiest veg food in the world [hidden link] . I remember there was a delicious tofu pouch not inari, but an actual bag with mochi inside. I could have eat that all day. Since Buddhists were the earliest to refine mock meats, this is a place to go to taste a piece of veggie history. Shanti."

"Itadakizen Kyoto is part of a big group that manage professionally different restaurant around the world and considering the huge investment for the place, the training of the staff and the marketing, they really can't go wrong! Very standard and easy to make food, but i understand that for many tourist is the perfect place for vegan Japanese food in Kyoto."

"The food was ok, nothing great, especially for the price, but the staff was not completely clear of what vegan meant; they knew we could not eat milk, but then brought us a side of chicken! The location is the best in this place as it is in the Gion area. I can't say we're going back, but if you're in a hurry, it's okay."

"Travelling solo as a vegetarian and found this Michelin guide vegan restaurant. You could book through their website. As this week is the Golden week (28 April to 6 May), it might be the reason why some days are fully booked. Standard menu for me at 3,000 Yen for one person. Comes with hot Japanese tea and you could add on sake or beer. Delicate in the variety of flavors in pickled vegetables, soy and root vegetables. You would need to pay additional 500 Yen to get into the Tenruji temple gardens before you can access the restaurant in an obscure corner next to the main hall and the pond. Pleasant experience. You can pay another 300 Yen to see the world heritage site Tenruji temple’s signature dragon painting (which I did not view). Exit the garden at the north gate to have quick access to the bamboo grove."
