"In the garden and part of the proprietor's house, this is a charming tea salon with home made cakes and biscuits and a vast range of teas. You can sit in the garden or in the upstairs room looking out across the river valley. Quirky...decor and full of interesting furniture and art work this was a very welcome, calm place to stop for tea."

"We always eat here when we are at the camping opposite. No, it's not the best food in France but it's a Routiers designed for hungry truckers!!!! 12.50 euros for buffet, choice of main, choice of dessert and some wine. In France that's good value. The buffet is always well stocked we had the sauted dinde and the moules both of which were absolutely fine. Deserts tend to be fine as well. We like the owner as well who always makes us smile. All the campers we see there seem more than happy. We will go back next year as always."

"Les Andelys is home to a little known tourist site: looming high above the town are the ruins of Chateau Gaillard, a fortress built by Richard the Lionheart and lost to the King of France by Richard's brother and successor John. It is all the more worth visitng as from the first parking lot one gets a breathtaking view on the Seine valley. We ofgten take visitng freinds there (in season, the visit can be combined with a visit to Monnet's garden at nearby Giverny) There are several restaurants in town, but our favorite is Le Routard, at teh entrance to the town when coming from Paris or Giverny. This is definitely nto a tourist restaurant it is closed on week ends and its regular clients are mostly truckdrivers. The food is not high gastronomy, but very abundant and good. You have a self service buffet of salads, cold cuts, egg, salads and pickles. Then you are offered the choice of three main dishes the last time we were there these were boeuf bourgignon (beef stewed with wine), fish (plaice) and grilled ham. Both the fish and the beef were very good. Then comes a cheese tray six or seven varieties and then a choice of three or four desserts I had tarte fine, apple tart with cream. A quarter liter of house wine is included for each guest, but we preferred the cider (also included in the meal): after all, that is a specialty of Normandy! Only two out of the four of us had coffee, whose price is not included, so I paid € 51 for the lunch for four. While the choice is limited, the quality is really high. This is a friendly place rather than an elegant one, but I know none in France that gives better value."

"This brasserie experience was shaping up quite well for lunch, the food being well-cooked and tasty, until a bad thing happened. The older waiter (owner perhaps had been very friendly and attentive, getting menus on the table quickly and offering our dog a bowl of...water, which is always a big winner that guarantees a generous tip from me and my husband! But it was a very different story with the younger male waiter who assumed responsibility for our table thereafter. He seemed surly from the start, maybe his limited English making him uncomfortable with us. Water came without glasses (or bubbles, but maybe language to blame there) and he was hard to find to let know.The various dinner crockery was very slow to be cleared after we finished each course, which also made it more dramatic when all of a sudden the large garden umbrella at the neighboring outside table was swept up by a gust of wind, coming down on my head! Our glasses etc were all knocked over, the wine and water therein spilling across the table onto my husband's trousers! While the waiter promptly removed the umbrella from my head, he didn't ask if we were OK. He also left us to upright the various glasses etc and mop up the spillage on the table and my husband. This put both a literal and metaphorical dampener on things such that we decided to leave, returning the demi-carafe of wine that had just arrived (thankfully removed from the bill), feeling quite shell-shocked by the whole event. This sort of thing can happen anywhere (although having umbrellas that attach to their stand reduces the risk considerably) and had the waiter been apologetic, cleared the table, and perhaps offered a glass of wine to compensate for the spillage we would have thought nothing of it, instead returning happily for more lunches, probably even recommending it to others. Just goes to show what a difference one not so good waiter in a hospitality establishment can make."

"We stopped there after reading all the good reviews. The lady was really nice and friendly. She does everything in this nice home which is her own. We sat outside in the garden and enjoyed our tea which home made pastries and cookies. We enjoyed...the moment very much, it was really relaxing; We saw a shy peacock in her upper garden, it was really a charming way to end our day."
