"Cozy small restaurant that gives a bit of the feeling of an osteria in Florence. They have outdoor seating at the front, as well as in a charming back patio (my favorite spot). They also have a few tables inside. The food was delicious from the start. Even the olive oil served with the table bread was remarkable. We had some grilled octopus with watermelon (unusual combination that they really got to work) among our starters. I really enjoyed the spaghetti neri for my main great seafood, very vibrant taste. My wife loved her gnocchi. Good salads and desserts too. Friendly service throughout."

"First evening arriving in Carmel. We were tired and stumbled upon adorable patio. Tiramisu...very good Salad....OK. not worth 21$ AT ALL. Muscles-flavored perfectly....very good Crab Ravioli...lovely but champagne creme sauce too sweet, not balanced. Service...arrogant. They say customer is not always right on the menu. Offered a glass of wine to try that he felt I would like when I ordered a glass of chianti. I was open to this...but then he walked away from table. It was a nice pour...but he never explained the wine, what he was offering me. I could have spoken up....but truthfully, did not feel at ease to. It was fine. Overpriced and over-con fident. We will not return."

"Got last minute reservations due to heavy rains and storms across California. Our waiter was an interesting and funny guy. Overall since was fast and on point. Cauliflower gnocchi was light and delicious. Apple crisp was not too impressive and everything else we tried was good."

"This was not my first time visiting Il Grillo. It wasn 't my second or third time.... this place keeps me coming back with outstanding food. Although I don 't remember how many times I have been here before, I will remember this meal for some time. Our starter was a spread of bruschetta with a couple different toppings. Tasty! For our main courses, we chose a pasta alla Matt that was custom made for us as my friend wanted something off the menu. The pasta was amazing and the sauce had a light tomato base with green olive, basil, capers and small pieces of cheese. Fantastic fusion of flavors and super fresh. Next was a pork chop that was one of the better pork chops that I 've ever eaten. Perfectly cooked and a perfect cut of meat that was seasoned with salt and pepper I believe. I 've been fortunate to travel around the world this year and eat some memorable meals. This will be one of my favorites!"

"Luckily they received a 1 review and this is only through eating out on a beautiful day. Lunch with 6 friends and 3 of us ordered the market salad....consisted of about $2.00 value of salad, sliced apple, maybe a half strip of chopped bacon and dressing.... cost $16. I asked some bread or rolls....has none! Croutons. I had better salads from Safeway! We are locals who have been here for years, but don't want to go back."
