"I’ll start my review by saying that I visited Morgan’s several years ago and had a fantastic meal, which is why when my partner and I decided to visit Swansea to celebrate his birthday, I fully recommended that we book this restaurant for his...birthday meal. We arrived and the bar you enter into was just as beautiful as I remember. We had a drink before our meal and weren’t rushed at all to sit at our table great service. However we were told that there was an event in the main restaurant tonight so we would be seated downstairs (something that we weren’t told at the time of booking). In the dining area downstairs it was clear that they had tried to make an effort by creating more atmosphere with white table cloths, music and a TV playing an open fire but essentially it felt like dining in a wooden box and all you could hear was the buzzy atmosphere upstairs in the main restaurant. Then instead of the a la carte menu we had seen previously online, we were given just paper print outs of a different menu that included a courses for deal. When we questioned this and asked if this was the only menu available, we were told that because of lack of customers they had decided to restrict the a la carte menu to Fridays and Saturdays only as it was quite expensive something that again we hadn’t been told at the time of booking or online. We then have a look at the wine list and pick a bottle of red, only to be told that they are in the process of changing over the wine list so some might not be available and guess what... our choice of wine wasn’t on tonight. We picked a different bottle and when that came out our waiter noticed that our table wasn’t at all even and that he would be back to fix it. But that didnn’t happen. By this point we feel a little disappointed but we are still having a good time. We order a starter and a main (mini fish cakes for my other half, soup for me and then we both ordered a steak cooked medium rare). When the starters arrived, my soup came but no bread which seems unusual for such a well established restaurant. A few minutes later our main waiter comes down and notices my bread is missing so he’ll go and fetch me some. When it arrives I’m given slices of completely stale white bread and rock hard butter than has come straight from the fridge. We have a bit of a chuckle about it and carried on eating. The soup itself was fine although nothing special. When our steaks arrive, everything looks great. The chunky chips are lovely and fluffy, roasted vine tomatoes are beautifully sweet. However we cut into our steaks and they are both over cooked. Mine was ok and probably just over medium (when we had both ordered medium rare) so I kept eating. My other half’s however was so well done it was grey in the middle so we had to send it back. This meant that we basically ate our meals separately as his new steak didn’t arrive until I had near enough finished. When it arrived it was better but still not really medium rare. We decided to order a dessert so we’re bought menus. However at about this this, guests from the main restaurant were now coming out of the main restaurant and into the bar, which meant quite a lengthy wait for our waiter to come back and take our order as he was busy serving them. At about this time, the music in our downstairs box was also turned off, but we could hear the music had been turned off in the bar upstairs, meaning that we literally sat alone in a room with no service and no atmosphere waiting for someone to come back and take our order. The desserts themselves were ok, although the chocolate cake a little dry. We had planned to stay in and have a few drinks in the bar but at this point decided to pay up and cut our losses. Overall we were completely disappointed with the experience as it really wasn’t on par with the birthday meal we had expected. I’m not sure I would return now. If it wasn’t for the lovely staff, who were very polite and really just ding what they can with the situation, then I wouldn’t even give it a star rating."
