"We didn't stay here, so can't vouch for the hotel. We stayed next door at the Novotel and unimpressed by the hotel menu wandered up the road and decided to eat at the Campanile. Wow. Where to start? First, we arrived just before 7pm with our toddler, to find the restaurant empty. We were told they didn't start serving food, and were made to wait until 7.10 before anyone took out order. We weren't offered a high chair, and there were no pre dinner nibbles or drinks, so we just sat outside wondering whether to wait or go somewhere else. We made the awful decision to stay put. When eventually someone took our order, my partner and I ordered burgers with goats cheese and honey, and we ordered fish and chips for our daughter. Whilst we waited, we were brought 4 small stones in a basket. My partner insists that these were in fact small ciabatta rolls however, they were rock solid and completely inedible. To be honest, the burgers were OK. Not in the least bit inspired, and a bit of a letdown (goats cheese and honey sounded delicious) but OK. The fish and chips that arrived for my daughter on the other hand was a crime against both food, and children. The fish appeared as if had been caught, drained of all nutrients, sat in the sun for a week, and then dried to the point where it filleted itself to spare it further misery. It tasted bland and cold. The chips were a disgusting soggy affair that reminded me of kebab shop chips the morning after. Needless to say, we decided not to stop for dessert, so as soon as we had packed our stuff, gone to reception, explained why we had been overcharged (seems they wanted us to pay for dessert, even if we didn't want to eat it), received a revised bill and paid... We left. Avoid, avoid, urghh... Avoid."

"I have put average as it can be hit and miss but they were very kind to us in a time of crisis when we once stayed there. This review is on our last meal. The restaurant is done in warm inviting colours and lighting, and they greet you on arrival. The Jack (Jill of all trades of a receptionist does everything apart from cooking the food it seems, so sometimes the continuity can be a little off kilter. They gave us 2 large ports in wine glasses with strange muse geueles (hors d'oeuvres maybe? which were rock hard bits of bread with a strange runny pink purée on. The menu was not vast so I had pork which was well presented but very firm and dry and not cooked in the apple sauce it came with, I had one small tepid roasted potato and some beans. My partner had calve's liver also tough, with rice and girolles mushrooms black wiggly ones . Our desserts comprised of herby ginger créme brulees. I left mine. The top was bruléed tated of ginger, the cream was grey and tasted like a mushroom, to me. The busy waitress forgot I had asked for a double expresso so it came back topped up with hot water, but they only charged for a single. Also the good imitation paper serviettes have an overpowering smell of ink and the room smelled of polish and they now keep the breakfast buffetton show which used to be cleared away. There is a little bar at one end but no one uses it but there are tables under cover outside in the new modern woven plastic all weather design as the rural the view is pleasant and the car park a good size. My gripe, I wish the chef would not try so hard to be fancy and be more like the Campanile which is the same chain. My Tip, you can get fish and chips always and the restaurant is closed on a Monday."

"Plenty of food... get the buffet to try a variety of foods. I'd recommend getting the station buffet and adding dessert if you are still hungry. Good taste of French culture. (Soup, sea snake, ham, cheeses, pasta, and more)"
