"My friend and I came on Friday 1st of June for afternoon tea that we had booked the week before and received a booking confirmation for. Our booking hadn 't been written down so the staff didn 't know we were booked in. We were asked to go and wait outside even though there were tables free and a few minutes later a lady came outside and told us that if we waited another 20 minutes then she could get something together. We were unable to do this due to me having a medical appointment later on and when we explained this she said 'ok ' and walked away. A review was posted on their facebook page and the owner replied saying that the cafe was busy and they offered us drinks whilst we waited. In fact the cafe only had one occupied table and we were offered nothing. The fact that Mrs Potts has decided to lie about what happened has made me lose faith in their business and I would never return now. They offered us 20% off in this reply to us but I am not willing to return after they have lied about the situation in order to save face. I understand that sometimes mistakes happen but I 'm really unhappy with how the situation was handled and the lack of customer service that I have received. We weren 't given a proper apology, weren 't even offered a drink and then they lied in response to us and eventually turned off their facebook reviews so nobody can see the negative ones. I wouldn 't recommend this place to anybody."

"Went with a few friends and admittedly was a bit loud and maybe our language wasn’t the best but we have now all been slated all over Facebook saying we was abusive and intimidating towards staff when we wasn’t at all, we was never asked...to leave which I think we would have been if we was as bad as they’re making us out to be, just think it’s very unprofessional to slate us all over Facebook! Do not recommend at all, boring people who need to learn to have a laugh!"

"Had lunch today and it never fails to amaze me how great this place is. It’s not for the faint hearted as the portions are huge but sooooo tasty. A lovely warm welcome is given from arrival, order taken quickly and the foods arrive soon too. The haddock has to be the best around and as we do not live local it really is worth the trip. Look forward to visiting again soon."

"We’ve been looking forward to Sunday lunch having not been since the redevelopment of The Whitaker. What have they done! A pointless reception area. No restaurant just a cold soulless cafe. It’s lost all its charm of the previous lovely bar and bistro style restaurant....I had the roast beef with a cardboard Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese which was dry with no sauce, practically raw broccoli and cauliflower. Inedible. No check back and service was poor. Will not be visiting again. What a shame."

"Brought my fiancée as a surprise for his 50th including an overnight stay at The Stables. All I can say is it was perfect. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Liz is the perfect host, the accommodation was lovely and we had the best nights sleep in a very long time even in the heat! The food.. well I’ve been several times to the Fisherman’s and it has not once failed to impress me. This evening I opted for the lamb fiveways and my fiancée had the special burger. We ordered the cheese board to take out, we tried a whiskey because the manager is exquisite in his knowledge and his person. He is a legend! The food was outstanding it’s as simple as that. The staff are wonderful especially the manager and Liz is, as previously stated, the perfect host. Until next time, it cannot come quick enough."
